Short notice Portland OR meetup?

Packy_1962 and I are in town until the 28th. Anyone want to convene for some revelry?
posted by ludwig_van at 12:46 AM on December 22, 2006

That sounds great -- it'd be wonderful to meet you. We're pretty open so if someone with a little more Portland bar knowledge wants to suggest a venue/date/time we'll make a point of being there.

Also please check your profile email, ludwig_van.

I might be down with a meetup.

Depends on When, Where and the results of a delicate calculation of the ratio of PriceofBeer vs. FundsAvailableForBeer, which is always fluctuating.

LUDWIG_VAN! Holy crapcakes!

Loq, baby, if the PoB::FAFB ratio is the only problem, we can probably manage a program of subsidies.

Aw, shucks. I'll make sure my camera gets drunk again.

lundwig_van: were you thinking after Christmas or before?

I am always down for a meetup. I'm assuming we'll have 10 or so people, which limits our options:

* The Rose & Raindrop isn't closing until January 1st.

* Ringlers Pub, underneath the Crystal Ballroom on West Burnside has some large booths. You can smoke in there, but they have good ventilation. And pool. And pinball. And a bathroom that isn't creepy. It's McMenamins, though, so it doesn't have much atmosphere.

* Berbatis, just off of SW Burnside & SW 2nd, isn't bad when there isn't a band playing next door.

* I vaguely recall The Horse Brass Pub being large enough to handle a group, but I haven't been there in years. They supposedly have 50-some-odd beers on tap.

I'll buy you a beer or two, loquacious, but I'm going to expect an amusing story or two in return.

Isn't there a Harvey Girls show tonight???? Please tell me there is since I am so planning on it. Oh maybe he's not in town yet? Ignore me if I am incoherent. I made cookies.
posted by yodelingisfun at 11:10 AM on December 22, 2006

There is an HG show tonight. Acme (SE 8th and something?), no cover, we're on a bit after 10.

Bring the cookies.

ludwig_van: "Short notice Portland OR meetup?"

I'll take the short notice Portland, please.
posted by koeselitz at 11:27 AM on December 22, 2006

Yes, thg are playing at acme tonight around 10:30 or so. Please bring cookies. We like cookies, especially when such a wonderful cook is making them.
posted by sleepy pete at 11:30 AM on December 22, 2006

whoops, cortex beat me to it. bring the cookies anyway.
posted by sleepy pete at 11:30 AM on December 22, 2006

That's why I get paid more than you, man.

The cookies aren't pug-shaped, are they? Because that would be horrifying and delicious.
posted by cortex at 11:31 AM on December 22, 2006

It looks like Packy and I will be able to attend the show tonight. Hooray! If there is to be a shindig aside from that, any night before the 28th ought to be good for us.
posted by ludwig_van at 11:35 AM on December 22, 2006

Yay!

(I'm totally down with a meetup in the next few days, though with family in town I may have to fight for time.)
posted by cortex at 11:44 AM on December 22, 2006

i made pug cookies once and was told not to do it again so no, the cookies are all cookie shaped. ohhh-k, see you wacky kids tonight with Jerry even. Oh and oddly enough a boy I had art class with in 10th grade. I have not seen him since then but he seems excited to go see the Harvey Girls. Life is wacky. woot.
posted by yodelingisfun at 11:45 AM on December 22, 2006

Would that be here, cortex?

I probably won't be there tonight, but may be up for any other meetup action in which I trade an amusing story for a beer.
posted by loquacious at 12:03 PM on December 22, 2006

That's Acme, all right.
posted by cortex at 12:12 PM on December 22, 2006

yodelingisfun, you could have told him you were taking him on a sewer treatment center tour and he would have been excited. You have that affect on people, you know?

See you all tonight and if not, later down the road -- this is so great.
posted by melissa may at 12:52 PM on December 22, 2006

Sewage treatment plants are fascinating. Maybe we could take a tour of the Columbia Blvd Wastewater Treatment Plant for a meetup.
posted by cmonkey at 3:17 PM on December 22, 2006

Well, I guess I'll head over there around 9. Look for the drunk guy.
posted by cmonkey at 7:34 PM on December 22, 2006

The drunk, shornheaded, incredibly attractive guy with the tattoos?
posted by cortex at 8:21 PM on December 22, 2006

Portland, OR, sounds like something out of a sit-com. I mean, you just post a thread, everyone chimes in, offering to bring cookies, buy beers, and oh, isn't HG playing tonight? Awesome.

FYI, MLIS, Portland is awesomeness in the form of a drizzly and cold city.

FYI, MLIS, Portland is awesomeness in the form of a drizzly and cold city.

What does that make Seattle, which sometimes seems even awesomer? Awesomestness?

Err, I mean, this place sucks so fucking much. Don't move here. The beer sucks, the coffee sucks, the girls are all ugly, the air is filthy, the public transportation is horrible, it's an unending urban nightmare and it rains all the time.

Stumptown is Chumptown, yo.

Trolling for a righteous beatdown, no doubt.
posted by loquacious at 9:16 PM on December 22, 2006

Ha! Hey, nicky-new-loq haven't you been in Portland for all of 3 weeks or something?

Anyway, I am on to you but you need not worry. I am not moving b/c of family I would leave behind on the east coast.
posted by mlis at 9:20 PM on December 22, 2006

Oddly I moved here because of migrating, converging family.
posted by loquacious at 12:51 AM on December 23, 2006

Well, that was a tremendous show and an excellent turnout, but we should really have a proper meetup Tuesday the 26th or Wednesday the 27th. What do folks fancy?

Can some one check Rose and Raindrop's schedule for the 26th to make sure they're not (against all reasonable odds) closed? Because that afternoon/evening might be good.

Thanks everyone—yodelingisfun, deepfriedtwinkies, cmonkey, ludwig_van et lovely (non-mefite?) girl Beth, non-mefite Paul, non-mefite Robby and lady, and anyone else I'm gauche/sauced enough to have forgetten, for coming out on such short and incoherent notice. And crunchland, I wish you could have been here.
posted by cortex at 1:54 AM on December 23, 2006

I always miss the portland meetups, so i'd like to make this one. I would definitely go for Horse Brass, darts, great beers and excellent fish and chips.
posted by efalk at 2:06 AM on December 23, 2006

I can't match cortex's exuberance because I had too much damn much nog and cookies last night but I'll second him: thanks, everyone, sincerely.

Jeez, this is getting muscled off the page fast. Tuesday or Wednesday at Rose and Raindrop or wherever works for us so whatever you folks decide, we'll be there in our Christmas sweaters.
posted by melissa may at 10:33 AM on December 23, 2006

That was an excellent show. And excellent beer, explaining why I slept until 11 and still have a hangover.

Either day is fine with me. Maybe we should do it on Tuesday in order to have ourselves a Boxing Day Meetup where we pretend that we are Canadians and sip authentic Canadian drinks.
posted by cmonkey at 12:37 PM on December 23, 2006

Great show, chaps. Really glad we could make it. (Beth is Packy_1962, by the way). Tuesday or Wednesday ought to be good for us.
posted by ludwig_van at 12:57 PM on December 23, 2006

Either day should be fine for me as well. (Thanks for the email reminder, mm!)
posted by loquacious at 1:14 PM on December 23, 2006

No problem, dear loq. Unless someone steps up to say this just won't work for them, let's finalize to Tuesday, 7ish, Rose and Raindrop, and delicious Canadian mayhem.
posted by melissa may at 1:28 PM on December 23, 2006

ok well i work until 7:30 but I'll still try to get there...
posted by yodelingisfun at 1:36 PM on December 23, 2006

7 will work for me. Maybe I'll bring the giant beetle I just found crawling around the apartment.
posted by cmonkey at 2:01 PM on December 23, 2006

I'll see you all there too! Awesomenessest (thanks for setting these people straight about PDX, loq)!
posted by hyperlith at 5:33 PM on December 23, 2006

Sounds good, but I won't be able to make it out until 9 or so.
posted by ludwig_van at 3:22 PM on December 24, 2006

Don't worry, we'll still be there.
