RE: The FeistyFerret post below; are any Mefites interested in starting an e-mail campaign to get the kid on a big show, like David Letterman or The Tonight Show?

It may be a silly request but Chance is a cool and good kid. Maybe we can hook him up with a really cool late Christmas present.

what about putting some effort into it, and mailling letters? Those tend to get better results.

You might want to contact him first. He left the site in June of 2006 and might not want attention from a place he left (actually he was kind of run out of town by one person being an ass).

And is that person still here, he couldn't help but wondering.

No, Ori flamed out quite dramatically in that MeTa thread.

I'm not sure Ori's been seen since.

I thought Chance had already been on TV multiple times. Forgive me for saying but I really don't think he needs our help.

Did Ori ever buy a sockpuppet, Matt?
posted by bonaldi at 9:50 PM on January 1, 2007

you know, this sounds like the kind of thing where you're really into it for a day or so, but if you sit on it for a few days or a week and reevaluate, you realize you were just sort of carried away at the time and it's not something you really feel that strongly about after all.

A day or so?
posted by Saucy Intruder at 10:22 PM on January 1, 2007

shmegegge: yes, you're right. But I've contacted Chance, we'll see what he has to say.

I have a weird philosophy about this kind of thing. It seems to me that any opportunity to promote a single Mefite is an opportunity to promote mathowie which is an opportunity to promote all mefites. When I propose this kind of thing it's not only for the kid, who will obviously benefit, it's also for the greater Metafilter good.

(Forgive me for stating the obvious.)

Sorry

I can't say exactly why, but I just read that Metatalk thread in its entirety.

Wow. Just wow. I don't know Ori, and he was long gone when I started regularly reading MeFi, but that thread sure does make him look insane.

hal9k, how sad is it I got your joke before I actually checked to see where the link went?

I've always felt the original work referenced was incredibly...meh. But I was, and remain, unexceptional.

(I'm just jealous that I didn't think of it.)

I also got it without clicking. As puns go, it is a nice one.
Wait, is a nice pun possible?

Deep. That pun is best described as deep. Bravo.

I don't think we need to try to get him on Letterman. I heard that he was on Larry King the other night. Kids doing alright for himself.

This kid is a fictional character. When the ratings started to slip, mathowie and the marketing team dreamed him up to appeal to the youth market: a shaggy-haired moppet who's into totally rad xtreme sports and savin' the planet and stuff.
