Missing timestamp March 9, 2007 4:19 PM   Subscribe

When logged out, posts to Music and The Blue lack the timestamp inside.
posted by Eideteker to Bugs at 4:19 PM (30 comments total)

For example, when logged out, a MeTa post may read:

posted by 6550 to feature requests at 12:51 PM PST (60 comments total)

But a HiFi post will read:

posted by tmcw

And that's it. It's the same on MeFi blue.

Also, now I'm curious who my perfect lover is.

The timestamp is below the title (look upwards to see the timestamp). I need to remove it from Metatalk actually.

Also new feature just launched: instant ajaxy favorite add AND remove! Try favoriting this comment, then remove it instantly.

To answer a few questions:

1. I don't know who logs out. I never log out. However, when at work, I never log in. I do most of my HiFi listening at work, though (sorry for not going back and leaving comments; I'm sure you're all dying to know what I think. I'm actually a little sad about this, because I had started writing this really cool song in my head about cortex and chococat having a musical battle over the future of Music).

2. It was easy. No, I didn't break down and log in from work to post this. Instead, I just used the IE Tab Firefox extension to view MeFi pages in a non-logged in instance of IE. It's only slightly less unsavory than actually running IE itself, from the EXE.

3. I had to, in order to maintain my perfect 2:3 Blue to Grey ratio.

I would like to add that the new minus is spiffy. (and also a good band name)

Oh, mathowie beat me to announcing it. TEH SAD!

I see the stamp now, Matt. I was not used to looking for it there. Sorry for ruining your day.

GODDAMNIT EIDETEKER.

We were *this* close, you mawkish spoiler.

Sorry, loq, but we shall overcome, someday. Until that day, I want my MetaTalk!

The instand favorite remove is great. How about ajaxy flagging? Pweety pweese?
posted by Rhomboid at 4:50 PM on March 9, 2007

Yeah, then I can get rid of my it-hasn't-worked-in-six-months-anyway Greasemonkey script.

Also: 28 hours between MeTa posts? Without downtime? Is that a record?
posted by Plutor at 5:14 PM on March 9, 2007

Yeah, ajaxy flagging will come soon. It'll work like this: click the !, a div appears with the pulldown form of reasons, you select one and hit a flag button and the div disappears, all without leaving the page.

I hope when you do this that you will disable "pick a reason" as a selectable flag.

if we're going to muck around with the flagging anyway, how about some new categories?

I'm particularly thinking of ones that would be good for FPP's as opposed to comments:

For example:

Double
Single Link Op Ed
Newsfilter
Axegrinding

etc...

Yeah, it won't submit unless you pick one different than the default. Also, I'm going to remove the "fantastic post!" option since I want flagging to just be y'know, flagging stuff. Favorites have picked up all the "good post!" slack.

I might just have an "other" option that pops up a text field letting people make up their own flag reason.

"I might just have an "other" option that pops up a text field letting people make up their own flag reason."

I would love you forever or at least until I was banned for abusing this feature.

The plus/minus thing doesn't work on the main page. It just stays a plus and then says you've already favorited it if you click it again.

Yeah, I haven't enabled that yet. Me and pb wanted to try it out just on the comments page first (the favorite/unfavorite for the post works on this page here).

Also, next feature: deleting a favorite from your favorites page will make the chunk on the page disappear magically and not require a reload.
posted by mathowie (staff) at 7:38 PM on March 9, 2007

I like the new favourite stuff. I'm naturally lazy, so the more on one page the better.

I don't care about the time stamp stuff cos I don't tend to wear a watch.

It's only 21 hours. This was posted at 3.09am GMT.

*wearily decides against going over one more time the difference between Favorites and "fantastic post" and why the former cannot replace the latter*

*hopes nobody thinks everything he's favorited are actually his favorites*
posted by languagehat at 6:53 AM on March 10, 2007

Look at it this way, languagehat—acknowledged, favorited does not explicitly mean thought well of, but thought well of does consistently imply favorited. So from a searching-for-signal perspective, good enough: a human agent (user or admin) can suss out a favorite-for-goodness post from a favorite-for-infamy post in about two seconds.

So we wouldn't want to automatically distribute prizes based on raw favorites, but they're still extremely useful for noticing good stuff. And "fantastic" post flags don't come in in much volume these days, so favorites are definitely a better way to keep an eye out.

Meanwhile, ouch. "I'm hoping this isn't considered too hypothetical" means "I hope you don't think I'm joking, because I'm serious about this."

So will someone else post the funereal meetup post, or do I have to do it myself? I'll miss you all, and no, cortex can't have my stereo. Harrumph.
