Mefite group art project: passing around disposable cameras.

I'm looking to do an art project that involves shipping out disposable cameras to whomever and then developing and printing the end results myself. It would be similar to this moleskine endeavour from Kickstart70.

I'll send out ten cameras to ten different people with instructions and return packaging (with postage). From there people can do whatever: shoot the whole roll, shoot one picture and pass it off to a friend for a day, forward it on to another metafilter member (that would be at your expense, though). Whatever's clever.

Downside: I'm doing it for an installation and performance art class, and I would need them mailed in my direction by April 7th. Upside: if its successful I'd like to keep doing it and develop a website out of it.

can i get one? i'd choose the 'pass to a friend for a day' option.

I think its a great idea.

There are far greater photographers than I in our midst, but this sounds fun and I'm game.

Nola: does that count as an "I'm in"?

Sounds like an interesting project I'd be interested in participating in. I imagine my residence in another country would be both a possible attractive wrinkle and a logistical downside, especially given the time constraints. But if you feel like shipping FedEx or DHL, or want to continue the project beyond the April 7 deadline, I'd be up.

I'd be in on this if there's still room.

Donpedro: I used USPS to Germany and it took $8 and a little over a week, so I'm willing to try sending them abroad.

Besides, if I even get five of the ten back in time for the class it would be enough, anything more would just be a bonus.

Yeah, see, it's not USPS I'm worried about but rather Correos Mexicanos. In my experience a package mailed here from the U.S. takes at least 3-4 weeks and runs the risk of never arriving. Still, I'll email you.

If you're willing to send them to Australia, I'm in.

That sounds really fun. I don't know that I can offer anything special, but I'd love to participate anyway.

You can send me one. Sounds fun.

Sounds neat! If Tokyo isn't too far, then count me in.

If you want something from the other side of the world and are prepared to pay the postage costs, I would be interested.

For anyone outside the US it will be a simple matter of whether or not I can afford to send it. I'll e-mail everyone individually, though, to sort that out.

I'm in if you still have one. Bonus: I'm moving half way across the country in 2.5 weeks - goodness knows what you'll wind up with!

I'm another one in the antipodes who would be happy to take photos for you.

I can do it with my own camera and send you pix if you like.

More than 10 responses - but put my name in the hat if that's the way you'll be picking volunteers.

hey dg and divabat, maybe we could share a brisbane camera? I don't know if I could fill a whole roll of interesting shots, but I'd love to join in (would also reduce postage for ztdavis).

I'm game, if you still have a camera to spare. Sounds like fun.

Yeah. I'd be up for this, too!

This sounds cool, and I'd love to see the results.

But I can't participate; I'm very bad at stuff like this. I still have the scrapbook from the last project like this on my desk. I've done it! And I have a person to send it to you! Just have to get it out the door.

I would love to do this if anyone drops out and/or you expand beyond 10 slots.

You obviously have way more than 10 replies already but if you ever need any more people, I'd love to participate in something like this.
posted by sveskemus at 8:22 AM on March 12, 2007

I'm going to include a list of e-mails of interested people in the ten packages I do send out. That way if any enterprising people want to forward the camera on they'll have contact information right there with the camera.

Or I just might send more out, we'll see.

I would like to do it but I am not going to take photos of ruined areas of New Orleans. I'm not so don't ask me. Sorry.

Be sure to braid an armpit hair first, though.
