"New comments" link together on one page November 28, 2001 8:53 PM   Subscribe

How about an option for the front page that would allow you to click the number of new comments and be taken to a page which contains those comments, threaded according to the corresponding post?

This type of feature would put a big focus on the comments, eliminating the original posts altogether, if I'm understanding what you want. Do you just want a page of recent comment output with links back to where they came from?

I was envisioning something that would just make it easier to keep track of threads that had been updated without having to go back to the front page, or (now that I think about it) not having to load the entire 50+ messages in an active thread, which might be good for bandwidth. Or might not, for all I know..

Oh, and I just realized where the confusion might be coming from. I meant that you would click the number of new comments at the top of the screen, by where it lists the number of new posts and new comments since your last visit, and when you did that it would show you all of the comments on one page. But I suppose I forgot to say that only new comments for old posts should be gathered on that thread. So, it wouldn't include the comments for the new posts, only those for discussions regarding links you'd (hopefully) already read. Ha. Hope that makes more sense.
