Ashcroft Deletion

Damn, Matt, you're quick - that Ashcroft link was still cooling before it was gone. Are you hovering, anxiously, all the while counting your ill-gotten $500 Monopoly bills?

(For those playing along at home, it was a link to Ashcroft's visa offer, about three paragraphs long, and if people jumped on SDB for voicing an opinion, they would have had an aneurysm from the vitriol pouring out of this guy.)

I just happened to catch it, posted something criticizing it, but then thought it was better to delete and email the author of it.

It wasn't discussion material, it was a four paragraph rant on "emperor asscroft"

Matt. Would it be possible to logically delete a thread from the database instead of actually removing it? By this I mean have a isDeleted flag on the db, and when set the thread does not appear on the front page, and cannot be commented on, but still can be opened if you have a link to it.

I only ask as there have been a few threads here on MeTa where people were desperate to talk about a deleted thread, but couldn't because it was gone.

Or would this be a bit too much work for the benefit?

Nah. When Matt deletes a post, it should not waste space on his server. For the record I have zero problem with Matt's censorship choices. He doesn't tend to let the power get to his head.
