Discussion of Kamala Harris’ positions on Palestine verboten?

A number of posts about the Harris campaign’s positions on the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and what steps people were or weren’t perceived to be taking in regards to that were deleted in the recent Harris campaign thread, with the mod suggestion to take it to a different, Palestine-focused thread instead. I disagree: numerous international threads have specifically requested not to be derailed by a focus on US politics, and questions about major campaign issues, even contentious ones like reproductive rights, have historically been appropriate for campaign threads. I understand there is ongoing mod decision making on this matter, but would like to seek community thoughts on this matter that might inform said decision making.

Why would people think Metafilter censors posts critical of police?

Why would people think that Metafilter routinely deletes posts critical of police? Possibly because it says so on Metafilter. In a thread regarding Facebooks's deletion policies, there was a comment that claimed "Facebook (like MetaFilter) routinely deletes posts criticizing police." [more inside]

Post deletions officially getting ridiculous.

Completely harmless posts in a non-contentious thread. What the hell is up?

deleting derails & off-topic comments

I was under the impression that derailing & off-topic comments (especially at the beginning of a thread) were going to be automatically deleted more often now that mod staffing is decreased. Do we have a community consensus backing up that standard? [more inside]

chatfilter?

Are questions that ask for advice and perspectives from those who have gone through similar experiences now considered chatfilter? I think this question should have stayed up.

It's not like they'll be getting into legal trouble over it...

From the FAQ: "Do not post a question to AskMetafilter assuming you can have it removed once it has been answered. This is unfair to the people who answered the question and diminishes the usefulness of the site. " Yet the poor soul who wasn't getting the answers they wanted was able to delete ">their question without a problem? What gives?

why was my post deleted?

I wrote a post to AskMeFi asking if anybody wanted to translate some song lyrics into Spanish. My post was deleted and the deleter said it was really for jobs. I just thought somebody for the hell of it would want to do this. Did my post really require deletion?

Time stamp for posterity.

Could we get a time stamp added to deletion reasons? They are the only type of comment that isn't time stamped, so all we know is that the deletion occurred sometime after the last comment (or sometime between posting and any comments).

They're identical "look at these assholes" posts....

"It's an awful scene and I know it's making the poliblog rounds, but it's also basically "here is an awful thing that happened" without any meat to it and folks who are paying any attention to this election cycle are pretty likely to see it themselves at TPM or elsewhere." This seemed like a reasonable deletion reason to me. So, I'm confused as to why the second Rand Paul Curb-Stomping post is less deleteworthy than the first, considering that they're basically identical links to a story on left-wing blog? [more inside]

Jesus Christ, this is stupid.

For God's sake, can we delete this moron post using two poorly written old articles to set up a point-counterpoint that is as trite as it is pointlessly inflammatory? I thought posting things just to forward one's own opinions and to stir up meaningless, hot-air controversy was against the guidelines.

Palestine

From whatever mod deleted it, I just wondered why my repsonse to this post was deleted, and what exactly is so offensive about it that it needed to be removed. A Mefi mail is fine, but if you want it public that's OK too. Thank you. Truly, I don't care about the deletion, but am truly interested about the policy/ethics involved.

Are snarky one-liners being deleted in the Blue?

Is there a new policy now where Matt/Jess/cortex are deleting comments in the Blue that are a bit snarky/one-linerish? Because I remember a one-liner in the Lyndon Johnson thread that's no longer there. Is that because Matt thinks that the first few comments set the tone for the thread, so ya'll are trying to keep things on-topic from the get-go? BTW, I'm well aware that I basically set myself up here for a rapid succession of one-liners. Have at it, folks.
