Is there a meta-index of banned users? I got a strange e-mail about a month ago from someone who claims to have an account but 'cannot post this week'. It was stupid and I wrote back that I thought the link was very commercial. It got me thinking: is there an index to check whether a user name has been banned?

There is no visible banned list. We've discussed the possibility of putting some sort of "this user is banned" notification on permabanned accounts, but it's just a brainstorm at this point.

I'm not sure what the public-facing value of a list would be, when it shouldn't be an issue more than once in a blue moon and would probably best be handled by an email to an admin in that case. The notion of a handy list of people to either harass or rally seems bad.

I'd think the vast majority would just be single-use, self-link accounts belonging to people who had never spent any time here, don't care about this site, and probably don't even remember it.

It doesn't matter if the sender has been banned or not; you aren't obligated to reply to e-mails that annoy you or creep you out.
