Apparently I suck at life and don't know where to post... but someone we all know and love received AskMe license plates from the Vermont DMV today!

Got it right on the second try, SirLoin.

Because we can overthink a license plate of beans.

I'd rather have plates that say BITE ME. Because "Rub my aching neck, please please please?" won't fit.

They have cars in Vermont?

Well, buggies, at least.

Next time, overthink before you post, SirStan.

Hey, don't take it so hard, SirStan, MetaFilter is just one little part of life.

Or so I'm told.

Anyway, how many Vermonters will know what "ASKME" refers to? I think she'll have strangers bunching up to ask her for directions, spare change, or worse.

But then I thought "Ask me about explosive diarrhea!" was so witty I let a T-shirt company use it for FREE. Maybe I'm out of the loop here too.

She's been sporting that tagline since before AskMe was a glint in Matt's milkman's computer's eye, actually.

Very nice use of the nooneisabiggerdorkthanme tag.

I'd keep driving til I found the person with the "BEST ANSR" license plate.

My META plate.

Which however has less to do with Metafilter, than just with the concept of 'meta' in general.

No, no, no. In VT they'll understand that she wants people to take their damn questions to Maine, the "ask me" state.

In fact, that's how she got the job as moderator. Matt kept searching for his new site in Google, to see whether they picked it up yet, and this librarian kept coming up on top for no apparent reason. So he checked out here sit, sent an email, and the rest is history.

Ah, but that's not the risk. What she has to worry about is Smiths fans crowding her with "If it's not love, then it's the bomb that will bring us together"

Hee!

My parents' CA plates read: PANDA (father) and MONIUM.

Don't tell your father, but shouldn't his plate read 'PANDE'?

Also, isn't there some state that calls itself 'The Ask Me State'? Is that Vermont? Can I have a cookie? Am I asking too many questions?
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 11:47 PM on August 22, 2007

No "Ask Me State," but we do have the "Show Me State." Do we have a ShowMe site yet?
posted by piratebowling at 2:10 AM on August 23, 2007

Also, speaking of stupid site ideas, I'd really like it if we could have a collection of MeFi recipies, either in dead tree form of online. There have been a ton of good recipes posted (mostly in AskMe) and I really can't keep track of them otherwise. I'd suggest BiteMe or EatMe as site and/or book name.

It could be flesh-coloured.

Yea, I hear someone has a great recipe for a three day old tuna sandwich. It may, or may not be edible.

piratebowling, I think a site that was just links to awesome recipes and food links from MeFi would be great. I'm sort of surprised that there aren't more spin-off type sites that link to certain caegories of posts/comments.

This really gives my stalking hobby a big boost!

As one of the more easy to get ahold of people on the Internet, I don't think this is giving you much more of an advatage than you already had, though I guess now you can try to sweet talk the DMV into giving up my SSN and then you can actually try to BE me not just FIND me. Good luck!

Shes so wrapped up in MeFi, she hosts meetups at her house, AND has ASKME plates.

living over there in bulgogi paradise

Now that is definitely a Jimmy Buffett song.
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 7:27 AM on August 23, 2007

Yeah, I was a ghost writer for Buffet there for a little while, but the pay was lousy. Now I'm working for this Waits fellow, he pays me in moonshine and old dry bones, plus I get to hang out with pool-playing Cuban midgets, which is every bit as fun as it sounds.

those plates have been bought up by General Motors. you need to buy a Hummer to get them, but on the bright side, if the car with the AskMe plates annoys you in any way, you can crush it into oblivion at will.

...and that's not a terribly good idea, either, bacause you can't get there from here.

Now someone needs to come up with some special sound effects for her 'Delete' button.

I'm thinking in terms of a revving engine followed by a rabbit scream and a heavy thump-thump.

After all, there has to be some reward for such a relatively thankless task.

Well, the first thing you got to do is spend a few years moderating a community website. That's...well, that's pretty much what does it, as far as I can tell. Matt's head actually spins around sometimes.

So far, all I have is a twitch.
