October running & walking challenges October 1, 2007 6:23 AM   Subscribe

The podium of the MeFi September running challenge is as follows : sequential (257k), caution live frogs (184k) and middleclasstool (156k). Sequential apparently could not choose between running and walking, in the walking challenge getting the best of shinypenny/longdaysjourney (242k) and fluffy battle kitten (51k).

See the complete results here and here. Congrats to all participants! Join the October challenges at Runner+. Now with new and improved speed limits, with a 9 minute kilometer as the point where walking turns into running.

Good show from middleclasstool in light of his recent distraction!

I keep being non-running or offline for the bulk of these, but keep the invites coming - I think the challenges are great, and things are settling down a bit. Thanks for keeping them going!

Congratulations on the new arrival, middleclasstool!

I've created Metafilter Burns v1.0 for the month of October. The challenge is who can burn the most calories in 31 days. No device is required, so you can count calories expended any way you want.

There seems to be a problem with the walking pace. Does it really mean a 36 minute mile as the quikest pace?

No, it's supposed to be a 14min mile. Longdaysjourney has contacted the runner+ admin to correct this.

Yeah, the weird pace bug strikes again. :( I can't make the pace change myself, but I've e-mailed the Admin twice and hopefully he'll fix it soon. Feel free to join in the meantime - the challenge will automatically count your qualifying mileage once the pace limit is fixed.

[Also, for all you people who actually have lives and don't feel like walking 100+ miles a month, I'm just hosting the walking challenge and not participating in it this month. :)]

There's snow on the ground. I'm less inclined to walk. :(

I'm also giving the distance challenges a rest for a bit while I focus on preparing to run a half marathon in under 2 hours.

Can't say that I blame you - I feel cold just looking at the forecast for up there.

I love these challenges. Thanks for organizing them. And thanks to you too, sequential!

Oh, it's really about running! I figured this had something to do with posting history. (51kb of text? 51 thousand words?). Under that misapprehension, new and improved speed limits sure sounded interesting.

I just realized I didn't thank Abiezer. Sorry, my good man, and please don't send the Maoists after me.

sequential kicked my ass. Just like this cold is doing to my sinuses right now.

Nice to actually hit over 100 miles in a month, though. Never figured I'd do that!

Oh shit mct - I'm afraid they go dark once they cross the international date line, so too late to recall. Still, I'm confident now that you can out-run them.

I'm in. I expect to finish dead last.

Thanks for organizing this. I am hoping for some better trash-talking this time around.
