MeFi book deals?! October 30, 2007 10:38 AM Subscribe
Jessica Hagy, author of Indexed, the Venn Diagrams-on-cards blog, on how she went from unknown blog to bookdeal in just a few months: "About a week after I posted the first batch last August, somebody linked the blog to Metafilter. Whoever you are, thank you! That's how my agent (it's still strange to me that I have an honest-to-god agent) found me, and from there, it just sort of took off." Crazy.
Kidding!

Quick: someone make a FPP about my blog, so I can get a book deal, too!
Who wants to read a 500 page book about how beautiful Zac Efron's hair is?

1 in 3 girls in America has a picture of Zefron on their wall*, ColdChef, so I imagine I could make a KILLING. And the person who posts my blog to the front page MIGHT get a percentage of the profits, winkwinknudgenudge.

Aw shucks. You're welcome, Jessica. I saw it on core77, who saw it in Good Magazine.

CHAPTER I
"Well, Perez, so New York and Hollywood are now just private estates of the Disney Corporation. But I warn you, if you don't tell me that this means the singularity, if you still try to defend the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that wholly-owned subsidiary of the Antichrist--I really believe they are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Antichrist--I will have nothing more to do with you and you are no longer my friend, no longer my 'faithful slave,' as you call yourself! But how do you do? I see I have frightened you--sit down and tell me all the news."
It was in October, 2007, and the speaker was the well-known Miss Kate the Great, ThePinkSuperhero, herself. With these words she greeted Perez Hilton, a man of high rank and importance in the celebrity gossip circuit, who was the first to arrive at her reception. ThePinkSuperhero had had a concern for some days. She was, as she said, suffering from Cowlick Colic by Proxy; Cowlick Colic by Proxy being then a new term in the industry, used only by the elite to describe the horror of bad celebrity haircuts…

I could string together a pretty good book using only my comments from 2006 that contain the word "fucktard". Agents, are you listening?

At first I read that as "friend-licking" and thought, "Why bother to multi-task?"

Seven years of mining pure gold from the Metafilter rockface, and what have I got to show for it?
Only my bitter, bitter tears.
Congratulations to Jessica, though. That's pretty damn cool.

Awesome news Matt, so glad to hear Jessica Hagy has a book deal and how cool it emerged from a MetaFilter post. Can only imagine it must make you feel good to know someone's life is being substantially benefited out of your own creation here.
Jessica's simple looking art really is delightfully innovative and I'm not surprised popular enjoyment of her work took off like a rocket.
A heartening update. Good feelings all around.
