Looks like you had good weather for it!

And we don't get a pic of tellurian opening his last beer?

That seemed like a wonderful time. I think I got jealous looking at those photos. Is Sydney as beautiful as it appears?

This is one of the first times I can remember the photos being posted while the meetup is still on the sidebar. Yay, time zones!

What took you so long qwip? A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Thanks all and nice to meet you edd.

These photos make me want to organize an Austin picnic meetup. Of course we'll have to hold it during the three days of good weather we may or may not have in March.

So, who's free in March? Anyone? Hello?

Lorikeets. Wonderful.

I'm jealous too. Now I want to visit Sydney.

Now that it's fall/winter in Oregon, my eyes have forgotten what the color green looks like and my god those photos looked lovely and exotic and really, really green.

Sorry I missed it guys. We're still moving and the in-laws were coming to see the place. Let's do another picnic soon so peacay and I can get in on it...

And yeah, Sydney is very green at the moment. Probably due to the fact that we've had a ridiculous amount of rain in the past week.

There's nearly a ridiculous amount of irony in linking a Melbourne paper to report on the Sydney rain too. Quite appropriate.
posted by peacay at 4:18 PM on November 10, 2007

Well I did say nearly.

Wow, could you guys hold your meetup in a more scenic setting next time, please? ;)

Now THAT looked like a great time. I so want to go to Australia now.

Ah, see, the perpetual Sydney/Melbourne oneupmanship thing tends to go right over my head. I just linked to it because it was the first relevant results when googling for "Sydney November rain."

Awww. I totally miss Sydney. And Lord Nelson and the Hero of Waterloo.

which is, in fact, exactly who i am.

*waves at everybody* - do you like the wifebeater look?

i was so annoyed! caught a snap of mrs quip handing quip a plate of food, but for that very photograph, my camera decided that its memory was full. the universe was clearly conspiring against me.

langeNU - the Lord Nelson is just beneath the hill, yeh? i was actually drinking one of their microbrews: "three sheets"

it was the first relevant result when googling for "Sydney November rain."

what were the irrelevant results? GnR concert reviews?

oh, i forgot to add..."dhruva's friend" - wasn't that arha? it's been more than a year...i just assumed it was her & didn't even verify that fact.
posted by UbuRoivas at 4:52 PM on November 11, 2007

nah: it wasnt arha...she's a friend of mine...who's not even a lurker ...but i send her links all the time
posted by dhruva at 5:46 PM on November 11, 2007

oh, no! i thought it was arha & that she was just in a mood for sitting back & taking it all in. in that case, i think we didn't do nearly enough to drag her into our tortuous conversation. or is she naturally that quiet?
posted by UbuRoivas at 6:54 PM on November 11, 2007

Well, yeah, she was in the mood for just sitting back etc etc, so no harm done. :)

Great meetup, great weather, and of course a great city. Thanks all!

Now to go and recover from the jet lag.

Thanks all and nice to meet you edd.

Yeh, I'll second that. A really nice guy, and charming & eloquent to boot. Any clever ladies in the vicinity of Portsmouth...you have a good catch right there!

(no idea if yr partnered, edd, but hey - no harm in upgrading!)

I can see it know:

edd> I was recently in Australia, counting stars in the heavens, but I seem to have missed you.

Okay qwip, you can keep your $5. You probably knew all along that there was no #2. The next after #1 is #8. OneBallJay bought the number on ebay for $175, which explains how he joined in 2001 but has a low number. Next closest is, 'unlucky for some' #13 and it may well be a joke (called out by MiguelCardoso, no less) considering the activity. After that we have #16 and #17, and although honkzilla seems to be moribund, jjg is still going strong. I suspect a fair few low numbers were consumed by mathowie in testing. So, excuse me if I stop there and go get a life ;-)

Spooky deja vu in light of your arha confusion - I'll post my photos as soon as I find the ^%(#$!&(*^$ computer cable. It's a shame that arha never did post these, I remember her making some really great long exposure 'light drag' plep shoutouts.

Okay qwip, you can keep your $5.

Ha! Forgot about that. Thanks for the research. I reckon that they could sell #2 for upwards of $178. Maybe more...

hm, all i had to do was open one little drawer to find my usb cable. not sure why that took a week and a half.

anyway, here are my snaps. only four, i'm afraid, and not particularly good. i hadn't used my camera in so long that i forgot which way the exposure compensation worked. also it was so damn bright i could barely preview the photos on the camera's lcd screen. excuses aside, here goes:

view from the park, artistically adjusted to make it look like dusk, even though it was a fine sunny day.

edd hides in the shade, so as not to detract attention from the historic observatory on the hill.

tellurian also decides to go incognito by hiding in the shade, because he realises that people really want to know what's going on with that crane behind him.

mrs quip (aka amusebuche) waits patiently for an opportunity to prepare a plate of food for tellurian.
