Tampa/St Pete meetup! Come join us on December 26th for the Tampa Bay area's first ever meetup. New World Brewery, Ybor City
Hey all you mefites in West Central Florida. Some of us are getting together December 26th at 8 pm for a holiday meetup. Let's meet at the ever-popular New World Brewery in Ybor City for one of the Bay's best selections of beer and some damn good pizza to boot. As far as I know, this is the area's first ever meetup, but we already have three definites, so it'll be a great chance to get together and meet some interesting people.

We'll be unavailable, unfortunately. I am definitely interested in future meetups, though. Especially if the first round is on the person with the highest MeFi UID. :)

Wow, I didn't know there were this many Central Florida Mefites.
Unfortunately, I work in a 24/7/365 business and the day after Christmas is a busy one for us, so I won't be able to make it. I do appreciate the invite that was in my inbox this afternoon, though, mosessis.

I've been waiting for this! I'm going to try to make it! My prime working hours are from 7pm to Midnight but if I can take a break and stop in I will.

Wow, the first meetup in Tampa is at a time when I'm actually going to be in Tampa! (I only spend a few weeks out of the year there.) I will almost certainly come.

Wow! Please plan more of these. I grew up in Tampa and was actually born in Tampa General Hospital (thanks for the sympathy). I would LOVE to meet you all, too, but the day after Christmas is so hard. I'm not sure I can make it!

I'll be flying into Tampa on the 24th, but staying with relatives near Ocala. If someone can offer a Tampa based couch that evening, I might attend.

I'm working crazy hours the entire week (including x-eve & xmas) so I can't promise... but I'm sure I'm gonna need a break and would be cool to meet the folks around here.

Could someone remind me how to drive to Ybor from the Clearwater/Safety Harbor area? Particularly exits for Ybor and parking?

You have a couple of options. If you're more towards Palm Harbor, you can take Curlew/Old Tampa/Hillsborough Avenue over the top of the bay. This'll take you to the Veterans Expressway, which you'll take south towards downtown Tampa.
Or, if you're more on the Clearwater side, you can take US19 south to the Courtney Campbell Causeway (Hwy 60), which will take you across the bay and to the Veterans Expressway.
The Veterans dumps into I275 in Westshore. Go east, or towards Tampa/Orlando. Take I275 the five or so miles through Tampa.
The most straightforward way to get to New World is to take I4 towards Orlando and get off at the first exit (21st/22nd St). Take a right (go south) on 21st St. Then take a right (go west) on Palm Avenue. There's a parking garage just after you pass 13th St. It'll be on the left (on the block between 13th and Nuccio, Palm and 9th Ave). This garage is a block from New World. New World is on 8th Avenue, south side of the street, between 13th and 14th streets (of course 14th is renamed Avenida Republica de Cuba, but it's where 14th would be, you know?)
of course, this will all make a lot more sense if you read it while looking at a map. google maps marks the one ways for you.

We're excited, too! See you all there! I have a non-Mefite friend meeting up with us in Ybor around 9 or 9:30, at which point we might bounce around to some nightclubs.

It was indeed great to meet the local Mefites last night. Well, technically, I was the only "local" Mefite as everyone else was a former-Tampa-Bay resident, home for Christmas.

Sorry I missed it, but I came down with a horrendous cold and didn't even get to hang out with my family as I was quarantined :) Let's have another one very, very soon!
PS. If anyone wants my cold, please let me know, as it is finally going away and the germs might be hard to come by after it's gone.
