"posted by" could be a very useful thing for the taglines on our favorites. January 9, 2008 12:02 PM   Subscribe

Requesting a "posted by" line on the entries in the personal "Favorites" page. "Popular favorites" has this feature and it makes it really easy to scroll and re-find a popular favorite seen recently (as they are constantly shifting up and down the column, due to popularity).

Entries in popular Favorites end with:

It'd be great if personal Favorites could end with:

This would make finding favorites much easier, as we wouldn't have to read the content of each one of our favorites to determine which it is we're looking for, but could visually scan the highlighted yellow names (if we had some idea as to who did or did not write that). It'd be a...filter...of sorts.

I know you've mentioned that favoriting functionality will be rolled out soon, which is great and I'm very much looking forward to that! In the meantime, is it too much trouble to add a "posted by"?

I think the only reason we don't have "posted by" on the personal favorites page right now is a space issue. Because the favorites are split into two columns, there isn't as much room for information in the by line. Many usernames would require a line break in the by line. Not a big deal, but not as clean, and it would put the [remove] link in a different places.

Well, agreed with OP, that is, not pb. don't kill me

heh, we'll agree to disagree Phire. By the way, if you hover your mouse over the date/time of the post on your personal favorites page (and you're using a browser that shows link titles), you'll get the "posted by" username. This was the compromise we came up with a while back. But I agree it's not as handy as being able to scan the page for usernames.

Well, if everyone would agree to end all their comments that way, your desire could be fulfilled without effort on pb's part.

Well I'm at least glad I found out about the hover over. I had no idea that functionality existed on that page.

ooooh! Neat-o feature. Unfortunately though, it's rather difficult to go down the page with the cursor positioned on both the scroll bar and the timestamp. I could use both hands, but then I'd have to stick my face in the popcorn.

I don't know if this issue outweighs functionality, as people access MeFi from different phones, browsers, with varied settings, font/page/window sizes, etc., resulting in line breaks and layout that differs from the intended setup anyway.

I don't think it outweighs functionality.

I would really enjoy sorting favorites, both mine and another's, both by poster and by popularity. If I got that, I would put on a white cotton dress and find a flower field to twirl around in, because it would be so fucking fresh.

Yes, more function over form, please. (It is very hard to generate mouseover events on a touchscreen!)
