I'm a Winnipeg mefite, but I'm suddenly feeling very shy. Maybe if other people are going? No offense, ODiV, but I just don't know you at all :)

I'm up for a meetup! I don't think we've had one before, but there are a few Winnipeg Mefites around. I'll send a MeFi mail to the ones that have geotagged themselves.
I might as well start throwing out a few possible venues of the sort that seem to work for meetups: Toad in the Hole, Cousin's, The Kingshead... any other suggestions?
(Oh, Koko, don't be shy. I attended a New York meetup once and the internet strangers were very nice.)

Hah! I've been listening to One Great City! a lot lately (I'd forgotten how much I liked The Weakerthans) and I was just dropping into the thread to post this live rendering of the song.
and now there are just as many comments about a song whose chorus is "I hate Winnipeg" as there are comments about showing up from Winnipeg...gers? gians? gfolk? gboys?

Whoops. I didn't check the thread and did the exact same thing. Hopefully they show up anyway.
I'm staying on McPhillips and will probably be spending a lot of time at the Club Regent Casino. So if there's anywhere cool that's close to either of those spots it would be nice for me. Or I could bite the bullet and just cab it to wherever you guys tell me to go.

It's not meeting internet strangers I'm shy about (I had a blast at a recent meetup); it was the one-on-one with a stranger I wasn't too keen on. Too much pressure to hold up a conversation :) Anyway I'm in. Anywhere downtown or near Osborne Village would be convenient for me.

I've just been roped into seeing my boss' band playing at McPhillips Street Station on Friday the 18th. So, unless you wanna have the meetup there, Friday's no good for me.

I just realized Saturday 1/19 is no good for me either, as I'll be seeing Fiddler on the Roof. Most weekends I'm just sitting at home staring at the walls, but for some reason my social calendar is filling up fast.

It's sounding like the evening of Friday, January 18th works for most people. (What time is that concert Koko? Maybe you could come before or after for a bit?) Can we settle on that date and pick a time and place so we can put it on the upcoming meetups list?
I'm also hearing downtown and Osborne as the preferred areas, but not any specific places. (Sorry ODiV, I can't think of anything on McPhillips or Regent.) If no one has a problem with it, I still think Toad in the Hole on Osborne is a good option for a place you can sit a while. If people would prefer a coffee shop to a bar, maybe the Fixx on Broadway?

I'm good for Toad in the Hole, teg (I haven't been to Winnipeg since I was 14 or something, so I have no idea where's good). No worries about getting it close to my hotel.

Concert is at 8:30, so I could for sure do a before-or-after-type-dealie.
Toad in the Hole is good, there's also Carlos & Murphy's on Osborne which is ok. Then there's the Elephant & Castle, which would be fun to go to if only because of its name. If folks just want to set a spell with a cuppa joe, the Second Cup on River and Osborne has comfy couches.

From the photo, it looks like you were at the Toad! Meanwhile, I was sitting by my lonesome at the Second Cup next door looking for a stripey shirt. I thought the consensus was to change the location, although I guess there never was a firm decision on that. I did not bother with a solo meetup picture. If there's too be a next time we'll have to come up with a more solid plan and a lower windchill factor. I'm very sorry things didn't work out, ODIV.
