Nice! And thanks for reminding me of Bob Baker's Marionettes- I've got to take my son and his buddies soon. posted by maryh at 11:09 PM on February 2, 2008
Wow. That update is so filled with pure, absolute joy that I am seriously considering snatching children off the street for the sole purpose of taking them to Bob Baker's Marionette Theater.
Ok, this, this is why I keep coming back to Metafilter! For the joy in it! Thanks for reminding us of it, allkindsoftime! posted by Lynsey at 12:01 AM on February 3, 2008
Aww, too cute! This is way better than that awful po-leece mess. posted by cowbellemoo at 12:40 AM on February 3, 2008
I sent a note to Mr. Baker's contact address. Figured he'd like to see that. posted by Malor at 1:29 AM on February 3, 2008
Me, too Lynsey. Thanks very much to generic230 for the lovely update, and to allkindsoftime for pointing it out to us. We needed that. posted by taz at 2:44 AM on February 3, 2008

3 things.
1. I'm a huge fan of MeFi Mail - that's how I was able to give generic230 a friendly request for an update.
2. I'm glad everyone liked this too, I wasn't sure when I first posted if I was being a sentimental schmuck and was going to get lambasted. So, thanks.

This all seems fun and nice and hey hey hey right now, but we won't be smiling when that squadron of twenty sockmarionettes descends, wooden teeth flashing in the moonlight, on an unsuspecting metafilter. No sir, it—
That is one of the sweetest, most pure and happy things I have ever read. Warms this bitter cynic's heart. posted by Pope Guilty at 9:46 AM on February 3, 2008

Wow. Coul;dn't you just feel the joy generic230 was feeling? Awesome. posted by genefinder at 5:34 AM on February 4, 2008
this is truly heartwarming, even though i had a hard time understanding why kids would be enchanted with game shows. i've never heard anyone refer to those prize-pimpin' women on 'let's make a deal' as marionettes.
and yes, i re-read it and saw that it's not bob baRker's marionettes. posted by msconduct at 5:49 AM on February 4, 2008
What is this feeling in my chest? It feels... warm. And why is my face making this rictal shape? These lines by my eyes seem to be related to the baring of my teeth... this involuntary reaction is frightening.
Someone just asked me what I'm "grinning" about; I don't know what that is, but because he is quite young, I'll assume it is some sort of counter-culture thing.
And why are the birds making such strange noises? Normally they are bothersome and shrill, but today there seems to be none of the cacophony I normally associate with outside, instead there seems to be, I can only describe it as a kind of music in the air.
It's all very disconcerting. Perhaps I'm getting sick. It seemed to come from reading this thread, so I can only assume that someone here is infected and spreading their ailments to the rest of us.
I would make a formal complaint, but clearly the illness is making me lethargic to the point where I feel I should 'just let it go and enjoy the day'.

You know, if The Grinch Who Stole Christmas was a medical drama, they'd have had to call an ambulance at the end. "His heart is—dear god, I think it just exploded. Massive swelling! Get a cart in here, we're gonna lose this green-faced sonofabitch."
It's probably for the best that it wasn't a medical drama. posted by cortex at 8:54 AM on February 4, 2008
I thought there was something about birds in that song that somehow seemed lyrically connected to your 3rd paragraph. Now that it's playing, though, it sounds like I'm hitting on you.
Sorry. I mean, you're cute and all, but I'm already seeing someone. I didn't mean to mislead you. posted by five fresh fish at 6:41 PM on February 4, 2008
So, for six whole minutes, I thought that maybe, just maybe, someone loved me. But no. I was simply being led on...
*sob*
This is exactly what I get for opening my heart.
Didn't someone do a punk cover of that song? I thought I remembered seeing it in a movie. posted by quin at 7:09 PM on February 4, 2008
Quin, you're probably thinking of the Circle Jerks' "Golden Shower of Hits," a medley of pop covers that included "Close to You." Not sure what movie you might have seen it in, though. posted by Rangeboy at 7:35 PM on February 4, 2008
If I recall correctly, The Circle Jerks (one of whom used to be my tax accountant) did a medley of "Along Comes Mary," "Close To You," "Afternoon Delight," "Having My Baby," "Love Will Keep Us Together" and "D-I-V-O-R-C-E."
Which, now that I think about it, I really wish I had on my ipod right now. posted by miss lynnster at 10:14 PM on February 6, 2008
