Got to be! Got to be! Got to be another Washington, DC meet-up! Hey Hey!

I am finally back in Washington! Meaning: time for a meet-up! Maybe late March? Nothing in Arlington, this is the real DC, though I'll throw for Rhode Island Avenue Mexican Food if people don't mind carpooling (I'll get a zipcar and Peruvian chicken.)

I'd love to attend another meetup. I'm most likely to attend something that's in DC and takes place on a Friday or weekend evening. But I think these things work out the best when the OP names a time and place...

I'm usually down for a meetup. peeeeeeeeedro's bar has my vote, though I have been wanting to try that Rhode Island Avenue Mexican food place.

I don't have much desire to have a meetup at the Hall of Mammals, on a weekend, during spring break, during the cherry blossom season. Might be a bit crowded, not particularly conducive to a meetup, and, well, I have seen it already. Besides, 1 suggested it, and he's an asshole.

I generally am available only every other weekend. March 14, 15, 28, and 29 work for me.
posted by MrMoonPie at 2:17 PM on March 10, 2008

I find myself wondering if Peeeedro's bar happens to be in Cleveland Park just steps from my apartment.

In which case there is a good chance I can make it. :)

And hey if there is a separate room I could bring Rock Band which I still think would be a kick to play with a bunch of MeFites at once. Good ice breaker.

(And if not, I still am meaning to post that suggestion as another Meetup possibility)

I am going to the Rock and Roll Hotel on Mar 18th to see Tilly and the Wall (which will be the greatest show ever)-- it's $10 for the show, but the upstairs bar is free and has a jukebox and pool.

I'm up for anything, though.

Man, I hate to suggest another date but...Friday, April 4th or Saturday, April 5th anyone? I generally can't do weeknights, is the thing.

We need to execute the "NYC meetup thread rule" and force parmanparman to pick a date/place so that all who can attend may rally around it and shame those who cannot.

Tilly and the Wall
Just as a warning -- Saw them at a small show in a previous tour, and tragically they were terrible live, when they should be like the best live act ever. Could've been coincidentally their one bad night, I don't know. But lower your expectations now, and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

You might mean Atomic Billiards, which I was gonna suggest too. Though it's kinda small, and is only one room. But they do have a multi-videogame arcade game, shuffleboard, and pool. I think they have board games too.

Of course, I think they are the ones who own Nanny's now, right? I forget.

And I'd lug Rock Band somewhere, I just need to know it can be set up. And that's the problem. :)
Also keeping it safe, 'natch.

posted by dicaxpuella at 10:41 AM on March 14, 2008

It's easily accessible via Metro. The Cleveland Park stop on the Red Line will take you right there. You'd likely get on at the King Street station in Alexandria, take the Blue Line train to Metro Center and transfer to the Red Line, and from there to Cleveland Park. We can post an address for you so you know right where you're going, but the bar is within a block of the station.

You can use wmata.com's trip planner to plan your trip (tell it where you are, where you're going, and when you want to go, and it'll tell you how to get there and when to get the train).

The 28th at Nanny O'Brien's sounds good to me.

I'd like to just head there after work, instead of going home then going back out. I could be there by 6:30 or so. Most meetups I've been to have lasted several (many?) hours, so folks could trickle in and out at will, I suppose.

Perhaps I'll be able to actually go to a meet-up after having to turn down every one since my first in '01.
If someone can help me w/ info. Currently I'm a few miles from BWI. As I'm off work that day, I'd go early and hit the zoo or something.
Many years ago I made the trip often, but it's been a decade at least.
My question, if I park at the airport, would I not have to leave DC quite early to get back to my car? It appears I'd have to leave the bar by 8:30pm, which would sorta suck hog teats.
unless I'm bored outta my mind ;)

dawson, I'm a bit confused by your question. How do you plan on getting from BWI to DC? MARC train?
posted by danOstuporStar at 7:18 AM on March 17, 2008

danO, yeah it seems like a combo of bus and MARC and maybe metro? As I indicated, I've done it before (parked near BWI and took rail into Union Station) but it's been at least ten years. I'm not asking someone to do my own research, just wondering if anyone already knew. Perhaps it was Amtrack I used, but it was more like a commuter train that went into the rail station at Union. And I don't recall having to leave before midnight. Hope I didn't make that even more confusing.

Can you drive down to New Carrolton metro instead? It'll probably save some time both ways.
posted by danOstuporStar at 9:19 AM on March 17, 2008

yeah, I will look into that, thanks. the main difference is I'd be driving 70 miles rather than 6.
posted by dawson at 9:56 AM on March 17, 2008

what I meant was, I'm less than 3 miles from BWI, New Carrolton is close to 35, one way.
posted by dawson at 9:59 AM on March 17, 2008

MARC is by far the best way to get from BWI to DC. The bus/metro combo is the worst thing of one's life. BE WARNED the MARC doesn't run on weekends.

Sorry I've missed out on this meet-up thread so far. Today I saw the mail from MrMoonPie, parmanparman, and danOstuporStar, thanks to them because I would have missed this entirely.

I do work at Nanny's and it would be great to host a meet-up there. It's on the East side of Connecticut, one bock south of the metro.

The front of the house is usually pretty empty at 6:30, so grabbing some tables shouldn't be too difficult. The only variable is the NCAA basketball tournament, I don't know much of a crowd to expect for the games.

If anyone has been to Nanny's, there is a big table in the darkened cave of a back room that I could reserve if desired.

I'll cajole our manager to see if I can get some food and drink specials, but I can't promise anything.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Sweet!

The "big table in the darkened cave of a back room" sounds good to me. It'd probably be easier to find folks that way. There have been some recent missed connections at meetups.

As I've noted before, I'm 6'5" and pony-tailed, so I'm pretty easy to pick out in a crowd. I'll try to remember to bring some metagrams, too. If anyone wants my cell phone number, shoot me an email.
