Hey something happened at kottke.org! I'm gonna post it to metafilter. Wouldn't metatalk be more appropriate for this kind of thing? I think so.

Can somebody please explain to me what it is about Jason that inspires this weird cult of personality? His 'blog is certainly competent, his design adequate, his entries are occasionally mildly entertaining, but there's absolutely nothing there that I can't find at at least a dozen other sites. So why are there people willing to catalog his daily bowel movements and post about it here?

...and I thought the whole Megway thing was really quite torturously unfunny.

What's the capital city of Norway?
Kottke.

Avogadro's number?
The number of molecules in one Kottke.

Sex with furries?
No, my friends. Sex with Kottke.

It's obviously personal taste, as with liking any personal websites. But it oughtn't be on Metafilter. Likewise, this thread about eod.com having new stuff on it.

We can all post about what's happening on our favourite personal websites. And wouldn't that be annoying. So please, don't do it.

When Kottke dies, or, more accurately, when Kottke's body dies, I dibs the ashes, so that I may roll up a dollar bill and merge the Kottke.

I propose that all A-List bloggers be granted the honorific "al" (for A-List, of course). Thus Jason would become "al-Kottke" or, if you prefer a different latinization, "al-Qhottki."

Does anyone else have a big scar in the shape of a "K" on their chest? And everytime Kottke's site is down they pour candle wax on it as a symbolic gesture of their bond with Kottke? Just wondering...

I figured it out. Kottke is Mango

No one can put their finger on it, but there's something drawing us all to him. Sometimes you can hear his name being whispered on the wind: "kottke, kottke."

Can you know the mighty ocean? Can you lasso a star from the sky? Can you say to a rainbow 'Hey, stop being a rainbow for a second'? No! Such is Kottke!

As I was walking home this evening, a little Kottke was riding its bike in the middle of the street. It still had the training wheels on as it wobbled and struggled to peddle. It reminded me of when I was little and how badly I wanted a bicycle but couldn't get one. My parents wouldn't let me have a bike until I was 12; my mom was too afraid I'd hurt myself. I'd pass the bike section in the store and just look, having given up asking my parents about it long ago. I eventually did get one after much pleading and begging. Amazingly, getting my driver's license at 16 and the subsequent borrowing of the family car passed without incident.

Jpoulos -- we are all fulfilled under the radiant glow of kottke. I lay back in the grass satiated.

kottke is everywhere, he's all around us, here even in your room. You can see him out your window, or on your television. You feel him when you go to work, or go to church or pay your taxes. He is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

(incidentally this thread has been listed at blogdex).

What did he fear? It was not a fear or dread, It was a nothing that he knew too well. It was all a nothing and a man was a nothing too. It was only that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order. Some lived in it and never felt it but he knew it all was Kottke y pues Kottke y Kottke y pues Kottke. Our Kottke who art in Kottke, Kottke be thy name thy kingdom Kottke thy will be Kottke in Kottke as it is in Kottke. Give us this Kottke our daily Kottke and Kottke us our Kottke as we Kottke our Kottkes and Kottke us not into Kottke but deliver us from Kottke; pues Kottke. Hail nothing full of nothing, nothing is with thee. He smiled and stood before a bar with a shining steam pressure coffee machine.
