Hi. I'm Diana Christensen, a racist lackey of the imperialist ruling circles. April 3, 2008 9:05 AM Subscribe
I know this is last-minute, but is anyone in the L.A. area interested in a Paddy Chayefsky double-bill meetup at the New Beverly Cinema? They're playing a brand-new print of "Network" followed by "The Hospital".
I'm only free Saturday so I'm planning to see "Network" at 7.30, and may stay for "The Hospital". Anyone care to meet for a drink or coffee somewhere nearby beforehand?

Sorry I can't suggest anywhere to meet, I just returned to L.A. after years elsewhere so I don't know of any places in the area.

I used to work near there, and it's not a great area for drinks unless you consider some options outside of "stumbling distance." It's only a short drive, but the historic Formosa Cafe is right nearby.

My coworker recommends the El Guapo and Snakepit, both on Melrose between Fairfax and Brea, and there's also the fine Little Bar on La Brea at 8th, but that's more of a drive than a stroll.

Since there's nothing really nearby, I vote for Little Bar so I can order pizza delivery to enjoy with my beer.

I could go with a pizza delivered to Little Bar. We'd have to get there early enough to eat and drink before getting to the theater at 7.30 (or a bit earlier).

Afro, it's only, what, a 3500 mile drive? I guess you don't really love Network after all.

I used to go to the New Beverly all the time! Formosa would be a bit of a walk--some of the places I went to eat nearby have closed but still open are: two Indian places, one north on La Brea and one west on Beverly; El Coyote for frat boy Mexican and margaritas, or Ita-Cho for Japanese. Sometimes I'd go to Insomnia for coffee, but the manager at the time was a jerk.

I love the New Beverly (and all of you), but Saturday Night is Not Alright for Fighting. I'll catch y'all next time, though!

Heck, I'd fly out if they were playing Altered States!

I'm gonna suggest we meet at Little Bar at 5pm-ish so as to have a decent amount of beer time before those going to the movie need to head up the street.

I agree -- Little Bar at 5pm or so. That'll also give us time to order food.

It was westerns and Mexican night at casa Katilla, so I couldn't be there. You guys tore the New Beverly up, didn't you? Didn't you? What have I told you kids about that? *hands on hips*

A but small dedicated crowd of four showed up for drinks at Little Bar. An even smaller and more dedicated crowd of one went on to see "Network" at the New Beverly. (And it was an excellent screening of a beautiful new print.)

Yay, Little Bar! And thanks, KAC, for the impromptu meetup, even if it didn't include the movie.
