RSS feed scrubbed of deleted posts? April 10, 2008 11:05 PM Subscribe
Greetings from a neophyte mefite. I was wondering: is there a way to get versions of the RSS feeds which don't include front-page posts that have already been deleted? If not, it's a feature suggestion, so please discuss. Apologies if I'm being dumb and this is simply not possible using RSS.
(For a while I enjoyed the "guess if this post has been deleted" game, but it's getting old...)
The problem is that Google picks up the feed seconds after a post is made and then caches it for any and all users of Google Reader even if it is deleted five minutes later. It's gone from the feed as soon as it is deleted, but yeah, if you're using Google Reader you will see it.
I don't know what the solution is besides putting a bit of a delay into the feed so that Google Reader doesn't pick up the obvious self-link deletion and instant trainwrecks within say, the first hour after something gets posted.

Once I asked the Hat
For the meaning of “cooter”.
“It’s top-hole, old chap”
Admittedly, I have exercised artistic license in constructing this verse, since the events described therein never did happen. Although the quote is real, I would like to stipulate that I may have taken what he said out of context.

While haiku verse is easy to toss off,
requiring just the barest counting skill,
the finished product often makes one ill:
a bad haiku! They make me hack and cough.
Among poetic forms with some import,
haiku's advantage quickly can be seen.
The format's limits bring out meanings keen ---
but best of all, haiku are always short.
A longer form permits one to express
opinions much more subtle, rarified.
But sonnets share the haiku's basic flaw:
scrawled down in a vain effort to impress
I find my meaning twisted on its side.
My efforts disappoint still. Shame? Pshaw.
