Artomatic 2008 in Washington, DC April 15, 2008 4:12 PM   Subscribe

Any other Washington, DC area Mefites taking part in this year's Artomatic? It's May 9 to June 15. I'd like to see your work and maybe meet. Registration is still open (800 artists so far). You should at least go and see it even if you're not taking part.

I've got a nice spot on the 10th floor.
In addition to visual arts, there'll be live music and plenty to drink at the bars.

Are there any restrictions on the subject matter of the displays? I tried to find a little more clarity on the site, but there didn't seem to be an explanation.

Do you do stained glass?

People can do pretty much whatever they want with their space (no painting on the floors or ceiling though). The building this year is brand new, Artomatic is the first tenant, so they don't want people to destroy the building. I've seen some pretty weird installations before, but most people are trying to sell their work or at least get it seen by people, critics or galleries so they make nice displays.
I do stained glass. And I'll be taking part in a glass tour of artomatic on the weekends. I don't know what times the glass tour will be yet, but there are a ton of other glass people around here, most fused glass what with the Washington Glass School here, but also blown and stained glass. I'm setting up an installation piece, just a mock-up window jamb or two.
The folks running the show are friendly, so I'd suggest emailing them if you want to run an idea by them.

I'll go and see, for sure. I've been to a couple Artomatics in the past. The quality is, as one might expect, highly variable, but it's worth a trip. We should definitely set up a time and place to meet and greet.
