Quarters for PhatLobley! June 4, 2008 11:50 AM   Subscribe

So is the Ann Arbor MeFite mini-meetup tonight to save PhatLobley's laundry still happening?

It turns out I'm free after all (at least after 5/5:30ish, and I assume most people are working anyway), and totally game for a silly mass quarter exchange, drinks, whatever. Anyone?

If PhatLobley's dilemma is not pathos enough for you, today is my birthday and I am ALL AWONE - except for my doctor's appointment. There, how is that for angst.

I would be up for an AA/Ypsi meetup (for reals this time, I've pretty much got my social anxiety licked) but this is a little too short notice for me.

I'm up for one as long as it happens in AA proper.

What about a little peek-a-neek? Lots of nice parks around here. Though that might preclude doin' some drinkin' (never really checked into what the open container laws or whatever are like in these parts).

the city parks don't allow alcohol....

sorry I didn't read this earlier, I would have provided the token old guy...

some other time?

Fair enough - let's divorce meetup from Phat's quarters, then (or do two - I'm assuming people are more than welcome to shower him with small change anyway). When shall we meet up? My vote is anytime between this weekend and June 12th (the 13th-30th I am being dragged parentwards).

I would love to attend a meet up. Dominick's could be a good location. I think seating space may be a concern, and they have large meeting rooms in the basement and good size tables out back. I think we should schedule the meet up about a month out so people have time to notice the meet up and plan ahead.

Count me in. Seconding needled though.

Sorry I missed this thread. I got busy this afternoon, but samph did bail me out with a roll of quarters. I repaid him with Oberon.

Happy birthday, bettafish.

I'm in for a meetup whenever. I must say I've been very impressed by the generosity and willingness to help of AA Mefites. I'll buy a round to say thanks. Let's set a date. This weekend? Late on Fri or Sat evening works for me.

Please pour a little sangria on the ground for me at Dominick's.

I can probably do Saturday!

Saturday'd rule! But give a little love to Ypsi, Ann Arbor's antisocial, mongoloid sibling. Lots of unclean, poorly lighted places there! Your dollar goes further and parking isn't a bitch.
posted by John of Michigan at 6:58 PM on June 5, 2008

I totally sympathize with my en-carred brethren re: parking, but I'm at the mercy of public transportation, and though A-squared has quite a nice set-up in that regard for a midwestern college town, it's still dead on Saturday evening in the summer. I can get around the downtown Ann Arbor area no problem, but Ypsi is waaaay out of my range.

(Should the majority of people meeting Saturday want to meet somewhere I can't make it, I will certainly not be offended. It sounds like this won't be our last meet-up, anyway.)

Hmm, John, I think bettafish's arguments for Ann Arbor are, at this point, more compelling than yours. Care to respond?
Saturday sounds like the day. Location TBD. I'm gonna sidebar this.

Maybe we should plan an Ypsi meetup further down the line. I'm not sure if I can make it saturday, but I'll try... it's always nice to have a month or so of meetup lead time to give folks a chance to notice it and plan to attend, rideshare, etc.

I think you should all come out here to byootiful Belleville. We've got the Bayou Grill and, um, a Meijer. Okay, maybe not.

So do we have a time/place for tomorrow? Or are we pushing this out a bit? I'm out of town next weekend, but I'll be around pretty much the whole summer after that.

Arbor Brewing.... Saturday night.... ?

ABC sounds good to me, so does Dominick's. Sat night surely works. In the interest of starting to start creating a consensus, I'll say, yep, HB, ABC. 8:30?

On-topic, we have a prior engagement for tonight, but might be able to swing by to ABC later. Just make sure you have a MetaFilter sign on the table.

I will be there! May possibly need to finangle a ride back to where I'm staying this weekend.

That makes 2.5 of us. Huron Bob, you in? Lentrohamsanin? ulotrichous? John of Michigan? Bueller?

Hope to see a lot of you there.

I'm about 90% sure I can make it.

Looks like I won't be able to make it tonight, sorry!

I'm at the end of the bar on the left when you walk in, for anybody else checking on their phones.

We've got three people and a sign. Would love more. Come on out!

Stuff I learned tonight:

-ABC makes a pretty good bitter, and a very nice stout.
-Belleville is the real birthplace of techno, not Detroit.
-You learn everything you need to pass the bar in the first year of law school.
-The non-profit status of public universities in Michigan is not what it seems.
-I am the anti-DaShiv when it comes to meetup photos (sorry guys!).

S'all right, I doubt I could have done better.
