Denver meetup anyone?

It's been too long. What's going on? Did -t move to Italy? Is anyone still around? I would prefer this weekend coming (11th or 12th) in Denver but I could be bullied into different dates and/or location. (If no one responds I will resort to email -- but I really would rather not...)

I'd love to be at another meetup, but this weekend and the next are out for me. I'm so out of touch, was there talk of -t moving to Italy?

I'd echo pretty much exactly what dr. fresh said, including the question about -t.
posted by scottreynen at 8:38 PM on July 6, 2008

I'm flexible with dates so let's do whenever we can muster the largest crowd.

I *thought* -t was thinking about moving to Italy. Maybe I dreamt it...

Sounds good to me!

I'd love to attend one of these but every time one is held something comes up... Like having a 6 week old infant at home.

Set the date and I'll see what I can work out. Weekends are ideal but no guarantee. This coming weekend almost certainly won't work but don't move it on my account!

I'd really like to come to one, just let me know when and I'll make it work.

Nails, I still have your book. I've been worried sick that I wouldn't get it back to you before I left. My life is generally more interesting than I'd like, and I want to make sure and see you to return it soon. In other words, sooner is better for moi. Smooches. ;-)

So you are leaving, -t. Darn I'm excited for you!

Dr. Fresh, so Fri July 25th would be the soonest you could make then, correct?
How does that work for everyone else?

(Looks like I will have to hunt down LFR, Fieldtrip et al...)

I'm in Denver this weekend - if it's scheduled for then, I'd love to come!

Nails, I'd love if we could do something this weekend. My travel plans, like the rest of my life are highly unpredictable at the moment. I _may_ be leaving on the 15th for the east coast.

I talked to LFR on the 4th (I think it was the 4th). She was somewhat preoccupied with a race she was organizing, I hope it was on the 5th or 6th and not this weekend, so she can make it.

Alas, I will be in Paris on July 25 (cue violins).
posted by lukemeister at 9:06 PM on July 7, 2008

You can never please everyone I guess. -t, lukemeister and peachfuzz are ok this weekend -- but no scottreynen or Dr. Fresh. And vice versa.

Well... we can always do a couple of smaller meets, eh? I'd be ok with that.

yodelingisfun can you do this weekend? Octoparrot...

Anyone heard from koeselitz? (splg?) I should also metamail get FlamingBore, jazon, Eekacat, gregor-e, kozad... I can never put nicks to faces :(

I can do this weekend, just let me know where!
posted by yodelingisfun at 11:27 AM on July 8, 2008

I have a propose location for this weekend, the NorthStar Brewery. It's just a couple minutes from downtown (about 4 blocks from Platte), and they have pretty respectable, inexpensive beer.

I think a couple of smaller meets is a good idea. Anyone want to nail a day and time down for this weekend?
posted by -t at 12:32 PM on July 8, 2008

NorthStar Brewery looks good to me -- I've never ventured a-drinkin' on that side of the Platte. Friday or Saturday works for me. Late afternoon / early evening onwards.
posted by NailsTheCat at 3:26 PM on July 8, 2008

I didn't know that people drank on the other side of the Platte either. Hmmm.... that sounds fun and looks bikable/public transportable.

this weekend is better for me. Next weekend might be doable if that works better for folks.

Nails, thanks for organizing. I believe I still have a list of Denver MeFite email addys if you want me to email some folks once we get a date nailed down.

I wanna come! Let me know when/where.

Can everyone who can make this weekend make both Friday and Saturday? Votes? (I have no real preference.)
posted by NailsTheCat at 6:25 AM on July 9, 2008

I can make either day.
posted by -t at 6:57 AM on July 9, 2008

I can make either day; slight preference for Saturday.
posted by lukemeister at 9:15 AM on July 9, 2008

The Fridays in my calendar are shockingly busy. Wish I could be there this weekend, I'll be thinking of North Star while I'm sitting in an orchestra pit playing "The Music Man". I'm pretty sure I've been to North Star, they had a tomato soup/grilled cheese special the night I was there which was _exactly_ what I needed that evening.

WHOA!! I will be in Denver (well, I hope) on July 25 and 26!!! I'll be at the UC-Denver School of Music. On Friday I'll have free time between 12-6pm, or after probably 11pm. On Sat. I was planning to leave sometime (morning or afternoon) but am a little bit flexible on departure time (as long as I can get home!), thus a sort of lunchtime meetup might work for me then.

Please memail me with some contact info -- I'll have a cellphone with primitive email capabilities.

OK then, how does this work:

Place: The NorthStar Brewery
Date: Saturday 9th July
Time: 18:00 onwards -- yes, that's 6pm :)

If Saturday is a no-go for someone who can make Friday please shout out... asap. Fieldtrip will be trying to round up other MeFites as soon as we agree to date/time.

Possible attendees so far: -t, Fieldtrip, lukemeister, mynameisluka, Octoparrot, yodelingisfun, peachfuzz, nails.

Apologies to Dr. Fresh and scottreynen. There's an incentive to have another mefitup on July 25th so we can meet oldtimey...
posted by NailsTheCat at 1:01 PM on July 9, 2008

This is so cool new people are going to come, but sad that the good Dr Fresh won't be able to.
posted by -t at 5:23 PM on July 9, 2008

Hmmm... not much activity. Is everyone still coming out to play?
posted by NailsTheCat at 12:14 PM on July 11, 2008

So tomorrow then?
posted by yodelingisfun at 12:54 PM on July 11, 2008

Yes - tomorrow it is. I think I'm going to definitely need a drink by then...

YiF, since you haven't met any of us before, you could always check out photos from a previous meet (photos linked within) so you don't have to approach complete strangers.

But we'll try and fashion a crude MeFi sign from beermats and bodyhair to place on the table.

I'm planning to be there unless the long reach of BoingBoing unpublishes my personhood.
posted by lukemeister at 2:57 PM on July 11, 2008

Great stuff - looking forward to seeing you all.

What time was decided on? I think I'm going to Lakeside tomorrow to experience Denver amusement park fun...I'll be there until dark, will that be too late for the meet-up? If so, is there going to be another one next weekend? I'd so like to meet you guys....
posted by yodelingisfun at 7:52 PM on July 11, 2008

Darn - we should have organized a Lakeside trip.
Late arriving shouldn't be an issue. Past meetups have revealed that the Denver mefite community comprises hardy souls who are happy to linger on until the wee hours. There is no guarantee that speech won't be slurred however.
posted by NailsTheCat at 8:22 PM on July 11, 2008

Shoot. I can't make this now. This Saturday has been the most topsy-turvy to schedule. I just emailed all the Denver area folks to let them know (though terribly last minute my email was). You'all have fun without me! And, drink a pint, or two, for me! And, -t: Safe travels!
posted by fieldtrip at 9:56 PM on July 11, 2008

aw man! we already made plans this weekend! I am going to be at a bike race pretty much all day on Saturday then I'm heading by REI to collect the mister around 7.30ish.

hm. there is an outside chance I can swing by for a little bit. It depends tho.

for the record I now live in Five Points / Whittier (translation: practically downtown) so that (technically) my ability to achieve meetup nirvana should be greater than before.
posted by lonefrontranger at 5:33 AM on July 12, 2008

Well maybe we should try to plan another one for really soon for those of us who may or may not be stuck on roller-coasters all night. I'm still absolutely not familiar at all with Denver so I can't help plan but I'd really like to try and make on of these dang it. I live by Rose Medical though if that matters in the least.
posted by yodelingisfun at 10:28 AM on July 12, 2008

Shame. Ah well. I shall show up anyway since I wanted to say goodbye to -t (if you're still up for it -t). It might just be -t, lukemeister and me at this point. But I'm up for it anyway.
posted by NailsTheCat at 11:00 AM on July 12, 2008

damn. I had a vague idea that -t was leaving soon but I didn't know that it was permanent. SUCKS. well not for the people where he's going anyhows.

YES we should plan another Denver meetup soon. I've been meaning to do this since like, months ago.

Either Denver or Boulder is fair game for the next one, Boulder especially for weeknights as I work in B, live in D.
posted by lonefrontranger at 11:08 AM on July 12, 2008

yodelingisfun, The specified meeting place is actually pretty close to Lakeside. So stop on by if you feel like it after your dizzy from spinning around.

LFR, I hope you guys can stop by for a quick one if your not beat. I have to run down to REI later, maybe I'll run into the mister.

It will not feel like a fieldtrip, without fieldtrip.
posted by -t at 11:09 AM on July 12, 2008

I'll probably be there around 6:30 to 6:45.
posted by lukemeister at 4:33 PM on July 12, 2008

There were only three of us, but a good time was had by all!
posted by lukemeister at 5:24 PM on July 13, 2008

Ohhh yeah I got really queasy after riding that wooden rollercoaster thing. I'm sorry I missed it but I hope there is another one soon.
posted by yodelingisfun at 6:09 PM on July 13, 2008

A good time was had indeed. -t and I were very happy to get lukemeister to ourselves. He plays with planets and things -- all very interesting.

And we saw the awesome car that -t will be taking on his cross country trip.

See you next time lukemeister. -t, have a great trip.
