You know, I'm getting a little Astro Zombie fatigue at this point. Not a lot, mind you; just a little.
I believe the proper remedy involves a chainsaw. In your case, maybe a very small one. posted by felix betachat at 10:04 PM on August 23, 2008

I've never liked these for some reason. I seem to be in the minority there though. Of course I usually just skip them entirely. posted by puke & cry at 10:51 PM on August 23, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]
Not to shit on Astro Zombie of course. Unless he's into that. posted by puke & cry at 10:52 PM on August 23, 2008
What song do you think is being parodied, smackfu, and by whom? posted by Astro Zombie at 11:06 PM on August 23, 2008
Oh, I see. I think you are presuming my initial comment was a song parody. It wasn't; I just got it into my head to write poems every so often as a comment. I've always liked the newspaper doggerel that used to show up with some frequency, where people would wrfie fast and dirty rhymed couplets about current events, and this now seems to be something of a lost tradition, so I just thought I would revive it, at least for myself. Didn't expect it would get this sort of response, although I couldn't be more flattered by it. posted by Astro Zombie at 11:24 PM on August 23, 2008
It seems spectacularly unlikely that there's any grime MCs on MetaFilter Music, but if so, this would work for them, too. Just take most of the definite articles out, replace the references to Slidell with the appropriate postcode, and it'd be ready for spitting over bars, as the youngers say. (Realising this will probably ruin my ability to listen to both grime and murder ballads forever. Bum.) posted by jack_mo at 3:20 AM on August 24, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]
Play some Funcky music....
I just heard this Wild Cherry song on the local oldies station yesterday, and noticed it has now been changed for radio play—no longer including the words "white boy." posted by terrapin at 3:53 AM on August 24, 2008
Cold Chef, although movement is possible in both the ana and kata directions, I'd prefer we think of this realm as the overworld. Seems a little more classy and less creepy that way. posted by Meatbomb at 4:15 AM on August 24, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]

Hey, I know what I'm talking about; if smackfu had said he didn't like the song, or he thought it was boring, that'd be fine -- assy, but fine. It's his prerogative. But he criticized it for being a lame parody, which it isn't, and therefore clearly didn't know what he was being a dink about. There's no law against being a jerk, thank god, but if one is going to be they should at least have their shit straight.
We could do this all day.
I also have nothing to do today, aside from the laundry, which I am in no rush to get to. Also, you smell, Faris! posted by Alvy Ampersand at 8:25 AM on August 24, 2008
I'm listening to cortex's rendition right now, and it's making my morning.
I truly don't understand the impulse to shit on fun things other people are enjoying, but whatever buffs your bile.

Sorry, I just assume any comments that look like poems are parodies of songs I don't recognize. Because who posts actual poetry to Metafilter? posted by smackfu at 9:17 AM on August 24, 2008
In the case of calling parody, an oblique reply in the form of a moderately apt line or couplet from the parodied work (or a related work, if you're nasty) is acceptable. posted by cortex at 9:49 AM on August 24, 2008

1. I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come!"
2. I looked, and there before me was a [Edited]. Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
Now there's some lame parody for y'all. And citeless, to boot. posted by Alvy Ampersand at 11:49 AM on August 24, 2008
