iPony Request: Favorites and comment posting for mobile.metafilter.com.

So, I just got an iPod Touch and have discovered the joys of mobile MeFi. But I did notice that I can't set or see favorites, and that I can't add a comment to a thread.

Any chance of an update to mobile MeFi to add those features?

Second this pony! And please give pb a raise if he can do it.

Doesn't look likely, judging by this recent statement of pb's

First, we'd probably need some way to log in. But that's just me talking crazy again.

DANGER! I spend way too much time on mobile MeFi as it is.

But it would be nice to be able to read more than the last ten questions.

As roger ackroyd mentioned, the ability to see more than the 10 most recent items would be incredibly useful.

And it's not just for iPhones -- it works great in Opera Mini, which supports several hundred phones.

Just so the rest of us non-jesus phone people don't feel left out, it would only be fair for us to get the following pony:

landline.metafilter.com

Yes, I want to call metafilter and have Microsoft Matt/Mary read back all posts (and links) of the day. And after each post I want these options.
To favorite press 1
To flag press 2
>> To flag as offensive, press 1
>> To flag as sexy, press 2
..............
To flameout on Metatalk, press 3
To comment, press 4
and so on.

Thanks pb!

It would also be able to see more than the last twenty posts (or however many are presented). A next page button, maybe? Of course, maybe none of this is necessary - just going to the main site through Safari on the iPhone works fine.

A Mefi app would be pretty cool.

Am I missing something? What's the problem with just going to Metafilter proper? I didn't even know there was a mobile.metafilter.com until a couple of minutes ago, and I browse MeFi on my iPhone all the time.

having a version for mobile devices is just easier to read, that's all. Sure you browse the regular site, but there's a lot of scolling and zooming as opposed to just being able to read.

Yeah, I just got an iPod Touch and have been using the front page – didn't know about the sub-domain. I thought there was a mobile version, but half-expected it to be implemented on the regular website via different CSS based on the user-agent string.

Well, that's fine if you've got a phone with a nice big screen, like an iPhone, but on anything smaller it looks like a bunch of arse. Really, all I want is a text-only version like the mobile version of Wikipedia, and just let my phone's browser work out how to handle the text display.

awfurby: Really, all I want is a text-only version

Yeah, really. Can someone please strip all those annoying images off of MeFi? They take forever to load...

My "satan phone" the Nokia N95 allows me to post, comment, etc. The interface is not the greatest, but it works. Seconding the text only version. Feedburner works pretty well on N95 too.

Opera Mini:
http://metafilter. com - 30kB
http://mobile.metafilter.com/#_metafilter - 1kB

Not everyone has an unlimited data plan.

My "awesome phone" the Blackberry Curve allows me to post, comment, etc. The interface is the greatest, and it works.

Once again I'm so far behind the pack I'm almost ahead of it, but I admit I did not know there was a mobile.metafilter.com either.

If you want Matt to talk sexy to you, that's still the 1 900 ALL MEFI number, right?

I stumbled across this while searching, in preparation for putting in a pony request of my own for a Mobile MeFi ... it's neat, but it is a little disappointing to learn that there's no login or post capability.

Still, it's better than trying to navigate the 'real' MeFi on my E61i ... there's a ton of horizontal scrolling involved, even once you get off the front page.

A link to the mobile version of the site in the RSS feed would solve some of these problems. Well, not really, but I'd still like it.
