I just noticed that the line about recent activity in metatalk says "X new links and Y new comments have been posted since your last visit"

Shouldn't it say something like 'posts' instead of 'links?'

I just noticed that line about shouldn't is say something instead of something else. Shouldn't it say something like 'who cares' or 'go choke on a plate of beans'?

I just noticed that Yankee Stadium closed. Shouldn't our Federal Institutions be forced to remain open to serve the public?

To facilitate choking, here's a helpful hack: At your cookout, roll the paper plate up into a cone (or "funnel") and place the small end in your mouth. Then pour the beans in the large end.

I just noticed we won World War Two. But I can't figure out who "we" is. Shouldn't... ?

Cool, first time that someone posts a double about something I already posted. Shame that it was on MetaTalk and about this.

I always thought 98 was the number of you-know-who. We're talking about Windows, right?
posted by ersatz at 7:17 AM on September 22, 2008

It's the number of the theses (the jism of the schism!) surrounded by the number of the beast. And Route 66, the route of countless sinners, followed by 6, so it's perfectly evil.

I think what they're all trying to say is "duly noted", fingo.

And though everybody's being mean about it, the reason it keeps being brought up is that it's a perfectly good point about an obvious glitch that would seem to be EASY TO FIX.

While we're at it, can we just skip "posts" and assume that "X bitchy callouts and y comments" will suffice?

I personally will hate it and actively complain if the damn thing is changed to say 'posts'.

"X new posts and Y new comments have been posted since your last visit" is awkward as hell. So, as an attempt to derail I'd like to talk about using "link" as a euphemism for "turd", and how funny much of the internet is when you interpret it thusly. Who's with me?

All I've got to say is that if, as y'all seem to be suggesting, we use "x" and "y" instead of actual numbers, thereby forcing me to do the math without the necessary information, I'm going to be pissed as hell!
posted by HuronBob at 9:37 AM on September 22, 2008

Better still, get rid of the numbers and use actual apples and oranges.
