Columbia, MD Meetup October 5, 2008 8:53 PM   Subscribe

Since the last Baltimore meetup sort of fizzled out in the rain and there hasn't been a DC meetup in a while, why don't we split the difference and drink in Columbia, MD?

I was thinking that the Dog Pub would be a good place (I haven't been to this location, but the Federal Hill one is lovely) and either October 25 or 26 would be a good day. Would anyone else be interested in this plan?

Three of us made the last one, and it wasn't raining.

No public transportation to Columbia in the evening, so I won't be able to make it.

I think she means this one.

Ah, sorry, I was out of the country and missed that.

Can't do the date or location...unfortunately I'll have to Baltimore meet ups only. Hopefully your meetup won't be as cursed as the one that I proposed...no offense Airhen!

I'll probably be at the game on the 26th. Might be able to do the 25th (or 24th). Columbia location is perfect for me...

I'll pass. I like drinking within stumbling distance.

I'd like to come, but will be out of town that weekend.

I can't do Columbia either -- another carless Baltimorean.

I don't think the last one was so cursed -- there were short indy films!

Judging by the way this thread is going, I'm kind of hating the fact that parking in Federal Hill is so bad, otherwise I'd suggest the Dog Pub there.

The Federal Hill Dog Pub (does anyone else know why it's not Thirsty Dog anymore?) would probably be unpleasantly crowded on a Saturday night (not the Sunday, though) anyway.

As in, "The Dizz"?

Exactly like that.

Is this "Dizz" that you speak of Dizzy Issie's in Remington? Because they have cheap beer. Not Dog Pub cheap, but cheap. And I love cheap beer.
posted by youcancallmeal at 7:52 AM on October 7, 2008

Yep, that's the one. They closed, "transferred ownership" and reopened under a new name with all the same staff after some difficulties with the liquor board and the tax man. It's all clean and well lit now, just doesn't feel quite the same.

Cheaper than Dizzy's? I don't know, Dizzy's has $8 pitchers.

Off topic, but The Charles is showing the presidential debate tonight.

Okay, so if we do The Dizz, would people actually be able to make it? There doesn't seem to be interest from the DC crowd anyway. Do they still have those bacon fig things? I love those bacon fig things.

I'm out of town until the 19th, starting Friday, so if it's before then I can, otherwise not.

Until the 19th? So, would the 25/6th work? Anyone else?
posted by youcancallmeal at 2:10 PM on October 7, 2008

Oh dude, don't try to accommodate my schedule. As Asherah can attest, I'll be a huge pain in the ass to schedule around and then not show up.

I have to work on the 26th, but I wouldn't stay out late, anyway. The 27 at night is non-optimal, let alone the 20 and 23.

What time are we talking? Anything much after 8, and we're talking a 2 hour + marathon to get home for me.

25th/26th works for me. That must mean it doesn't for electroboy.
posted by Airhen at 4:20 PM on October 7, 2008

Well, Dizzy Issie's (I can't call it by the new name with a straight face) gets pretty packed, so what about 6:30pm on the Saturday, the 25th? That should be early enough for us to snag a table and such as well as for folk who don't want to stay out too late.
posted by youcancallmeal at 5:36 PM on October 7, 2008

I could do that. Want me to bring the bright red, plushie stuffed crab? Airhen liked it, IIRC.
posted by QIbHom at 7:31 PM on October 7, 2008

Sidebarred. And yes, bring on the crab! And I'll even buy the first pitcher. :)

I'm literally a block away...but the b/f will be in town and there's a World Series game on that night, but we can give it an honest shot.

I'm not a Baltimoron...is this the right address?

Should be the right one.
posted by QIbHom at 11:50 AM on October 8, 2008

I'm also about a block away, but I've got a match in DC that day so the chances of my attendance are slim to none.

I'd also like to suggest an election returns watching thing.

ParmanParman will be there with friend Mr. Perlman.

How do we spot people? I'll have the orange and red crab, but if I'm not the first person, that won't do much good.
posted by QIbHom at 8:01 AM on October 24, 2008

I'll bring a sign to put on the table.
posted by youcancallmeal at 8:51 AM on October 24, 2008

Not that anyone will be horribly disappointed, but I don't think I can make it -- it's Lantern Parade night (or rained out Lantern Parade night). The good news is, that probably means there's a good chance electroboy will make it.
posted by Airhen at 9:32 AM on October 25, 2008

Aw. I'd never even heard of the Lantern Parade. That looks awesome. Well, if it gets rained out, you know where we'll be. :)
posted by youcancallmeal at 9:35 AM on October 25, 2008

I will be in jeans and a white polo and have my eyes open (beware of imitations).
posted by parmanparman at 1:33 PM on October 25, 2008

Airhen, I just walked by the Creative Alliance, the Lantern Parade has been postponed to tomorrow.

But, I'm already drenched, so I'm not coming out. Sorry, gang, but wet and cold and dark is not sounding like fun. Hope you all have a great time.
posted by QIbHom at 2:08 PM on October 25, 2008

Aw. The rain seems to have stopped! (good thing since I can't find my umbrella.) I'm wearing a pink and a grey shirt and jeans. Heading out now.

i'm here at a table in the back by the cake. come drink with me, y'all!

I'm not going to make it, but we made the playoffs.
