Mine is sort of loosely based on The Masque of the Red Death. With a blizzard of googly eyes.

Oooh. I don't have my photos yet, but I dressed up as a prairie woman, and ended up running into a very well done Abe Lincoln. The host at our party made us stand together for a couple of photos a la American Gothic, only using a rake.

I didn't wear a costume, but one of my co-workers dressed as...well, take a look.

It was a few days before halloween but I went to a costume party as a plastic surgeon, whose scar magically dissapears as the night goes on.

I couldn't resist the temptation to go as Palin. The whole night, all i could smell was hairspray - it must be horrible for her.

Lucinda! My son went as Luigi! (no pictures yet, though).

I didn't dress up, but I did manage to slice open my foot while trick-or-treating, which many passersby assumed was part of some gory random costume.

I just so happened to have a homemade donkey head hat lying around from a production of Midsummer Night's Dream. So I threw on a suit and went as the Democratic Party, which gave me an excuse to yell insults at all the Sarah Palins.

It's a terrible picture, but here is Ogga the Cavegirl. I learned much about out Neolithic ancestors, particularly that cavegirls need long underwear later in the evening and dancing with an antler strapped to your head is surprisingly risky.

My costume was the urban legend of the spiders in the beehive hairdo. Which continues my years-long theme of costumes that require several minutes of explanation, since it turns out no one in my social circle has heard that urban legend. Sigh.

Haha! We had a Tokyo meetup yesterday, at an aquarium, and it just so happens there were some costumes there for folks to dress up in. Here's gomichild and recent arrival, misozaki, and the rest of us, hanging around with some jellyfish, no less!

I wish my hastily snapped pics had turned out better. These were taken just before rushing out for the Halloween parade, which was great as ever. Hoping some of my friends got better shots. Anyway, here's Miko the suffragist (and the sign I carried), along with Lipstick Thespian as Joe the Plumber and JustAskJustTell as the Banking Crisis.

Mr. and Ms. Pac Man

The best part about the night was that as we were leaving the bar, a guy who was pretty soused offered us 40 bucks for the pair of Pac-Man heads. We jumped at the chance. Hell, we spent less than 20 bucks on materials! All halloweens should be so profitable.

My husband and I went as Charlie Brown and Lucy. I knitted him the yellow sweater with the zig-zag, and I sewed my own puffy-sleeve dress!

I forgot to thank scody for giving me the idea for the slogan on my suffrage sign. I knew I wanted a pointed sign but didn't know what it should say, and she suggested that message, which was great. On the back was a quote from Susan B. Anthony: "Failure is impossible."

My suitemates and I were (very creatively, obv.) the Spice Girls. I was Posh, which was kinda silly because I look nothing like her. All the pictures are on facebook so I can't link to evidence, but I basically made a little black dress out of a black men's t-shirt we bought last minute at Wal-mart. Ahh, college.

So many great costumes! I feel humbled in posting ours, but I'll throw in some extras to make up for it:

Saintcynr as a Corporate Zombie and later as Neo.

Me as Ursula the Sea Witch (very last-minute; for work - whole team were Disney Villains) &, later in the evening, plain 'ol garden variety witch.

Our front window (daylight); Jack O'Lantern 1; Jack O'Lantern 2; pepitas.

Oh, hey, pictures. Here I am with my saucy pirate wench. The other side said "SCIENTOLOGY: A THETANIC CULT? XENU.NET". After the nth person asked me to explain the costume (no, I'm not V for Vendetta), I made a tiny note on the sign that said, "Hi, I'm from the Internet!"

i attempted to go out as corrine "third-degree" burns from ladies and gentlemen, the fabulous stains. unfortunately, because i was going to the party straight from work, i couldn't exactly rock the costume i wanted to, so i looked like a cross between 1980s stevie nicks and patty hearst.

No photos, alas -- but I took a long old-fashioned looking nightgown and put on a blouse and skirt over that, threw on a mob cap and wandered around the Halloween festivities in my neighborhood, knitting a red, white, and blue scarf as I walked -- for I was Madame Defarge from A Tale Of Two Cities.

...However, everyone thought I was Betsey Ross.

The two best costumes I saw all night were at the bar I ended up at -- a guy who dressed as "the Log Lady" from Twin Peaks (he even rigged a Magic 8-Ball inside his log so it could "talk" to you), and a guy dressed as Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama. He'd made himself a pair of lobster-claw gloves out of Bondo, and refused to take them off all night. It took him five minutes to pick up his beer.
