askme question about solitary living November 10, 2008 6:22 AM   Subscribe

Anyone remember an askme question about good places to live as a semi-hermit for a while?

Hi. I remember a question from a while ago, where the poster wanted to know places in the world to live a solitary or semisolitary existence for a while. I can't find it at all. Anyone know the one I mean?

Hope this is an acceptable post on metatalk - I seem to remember they are.

I checked the hermit tag and didn't see anything special but I think one of these two posts under the solitude tag (1, 2) may be what you are looking for.

Also, yep it's totally fine to ask in MeTa about an old AskMe post though Burhanistan is right if we can't find it for you, you're more than welcome to post a new question asking basically the same thing if you're curious.

I asked a similar question two years ago.

It's very easy to be a semi-hermit anywhere. Stop going outside. Stop talking to people.

I live in a city of 8 million and days go by when I don't talk to or see another soul. I never felt as alone as when I was housesitting in rural Maryland without a car. Hermitage is easy, socialization is hard.

None of the posts seem to ring a bell, but may be useful anyway. Thanks for considering it.

I could've sworn it said something about living as a 'hermit'.

I suppose it could be some sort of mental composite artifact my brain came up with. Maybe I will post it next week.

Cheers!

Who'da thunk it would be so hard to find a hermit?

This one came up in my browsing this week. No specific mention of hermitage or complete isolation, but thematically it rung a bell.
