Quick, someone make a post about Alan Moore or Bob Dylan!!!

Who am I kidding? Damn my internet-averse heroes!

They crazy thing is, I though Amanda Palmer DIED on Twin Peaks.

Rex has also made an appearance today, although, true to the subject of the thread, it wasn't to add any new information but instead to be breezy.

Yeah, artw, but effugas is a 10K'er. That's old skool.

God, I don't even understand the linked comment. But I favorited it anyway, because I know that I'll keep reading about this via askme or the front page, and eventually, understanding will come.

When I occasionally gets linked on the front page, nobody acts all excited when I show up in the thread.

But I blame myself for that.

Horses mouthness is always cool. Didn't effugas chime in when the DNS thing first came up earlier in the year?

Someone should post about Stephen Fry - I bet he'd join in a nanosecond, resulting in a massive fanspasm, and, after his fifth toodle-pip of a MetaTalk post, the sudden, terrifying realisation that, on the web at least, he's the British Miguel Cardoso.

If you're a vampire with a lot of hair gel, that's pretty hot. If not, is there any way you could become a vampire with a lot of hair gel?

No, sorry.

Artw, do you want to swap your Friday night for my Sunday mid-afternoon? I have a softball game.
posted by ODiV at 12:48 PM on December 2, 2008

Oh, I forgot to tell you guys that I might be out late on Friday, but you know where the keys are.

What about the monthly delivery of brownies to all A+ members?
posted by Brandon Blatcher at 1:13 PM on December 2, 2008

I already said most of this in the comically effusive MeMail I sent Kaminsky a few days ago, but I really consider him to be the internet version of Stanislav Petrov, the Soviet officer that saved the world from nuclear war.

I mean, if I understand the issue correctly (and I probably don't) he had total control of the internet. He could have sold the technique to The Red Chinese, allowing them to intercept valuable intelligence on rival nations. Or hell, he could have allowed the Bush administration even more untraceable wiretap powers. He could have transferred billions to the cause of his choice, good or evil. Or he could have scrambled the web beyond repair in a fit of anarchic glee.

So hats off again to Mefi's Own effugas for not allowing absolute power to corrupt absolutely.

And maybe, if I'm hyperbolic enough in my praise, he will send me ten movies streaming across that internet, or maybe my own personal internet.

Errr, I don't think those were brownies Brandon. Or maybe that's just what us B- members get?

I regret eating the burning front door step brown paper bag brownies.
posted by Astro Zombie at 1:36 PM on December 2, 2008 [1 favorite]

Huh. I've been getting a giant basket of chocolate truffles with MF stamped on the side delivered every week. Is that because of the cabal membership?
posted by eyeballkid at 1:42 PM on December 2, 2008

Selling secrets to the red Chinese DOES sound rather cool and bond vilainesque. Needs more satelites though, and some of those cool see-through suits.

(Also someone will probably kick you into your own nuclear reactor)

what drives me crazy is when the vampire is all like hey man i can only use vegan hair product and it's like okay what the fuck you do NOT have the moral high ground here you photosensitive plasma junkie motherfucker

Oh shit, honestly? We've been through this in how many vegan vampire threads? It's just one of the things MetaFilter does not do well.

My doorstep brownies arrived in a policeman's helmet. And then someone stole it.

Is whether or not a restaurant will provide celery blood to a vegan vampire, even if it's off the menu, a good metric for the level of service it provides?

When you're a vampire, everything's off-menu.

Vampires and movie stars share the habit of showing up at restaurants and ordering whatever the hell they please and just expecting the chef to make it for them. They also share a tendency to leave corpses in the alley.
posted by Astro Zombie at 2:36 PM on December 2, 2008

Vampires do usually go over 15% though, which is more than I can say for Tom Hanks, the cheap bastard.

I show up here every day. Sometimes I put in long hours snarking, lurking, and generally posting garbage. Do I get any recognition? Prizes? Offers of marriage? No. Nothing.

Today, before work, I was walking over to a local diner to get some coffee. I had my iPod earbuds in, blaring "Disposable Heroes" at peak volume. Some homeless dude made smoking gestures at me. Since I believe in smoker's karma, I gave him one. He looked like he'd slept in a dumpster, except for his meticulously red-painted fingernails. He looked me dead in the face and said in avery earnest voice, "I saw your sister. She's not dead, she's alive, you know." Okay.

Then after work, I wandered into a superdupermegamondomart and saw this on the shelf, and bought myself a present.

I'm a one-man welcome wagon.

Really, I love it when the show-up-in-the-thread thing happens, is all. But I didn't realize I was quite so consistent and exclusive in that use. I use it as a greeting in friendly admin emails too.

Every goddamn Halloween I had to be driven over to my grandparents house so my grandfather could pretend not to recognize me and put a rock in my bag.

Damn, I miss that guy.

heres one for luck.

We don’t have grades here. A member either learns and gets an “L,” or they fluctuate in their learning.

What do we get for that?

An “F.”

Mis-tah F!

Two minor corrections:

1 - O Brother, Where Art Thou? is the correct title spelling, and

2 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Tyminski

Also, I'd love for someone to do an Alison Krauss FPP.
