SF Bay Area Inaugural Meetup? January 16, 2009 12:40 AM Subscribe
Any MeFites want to get together on Tuesday the 20th in the SF bay area and celebrate the day together? Preferably near a media source? And beverages?
This could well be done! Unless by "celebrate the day" you mean....daytime. Because in that case, I'll be stuck at work, watching all the inaugural stuff there.

President-Elect Obama takes the oath at 9am Tuesday local time, if I'm reading the schedule correctly. I'm off Monday for MLK, but not Tuesday.
I think I'll ask if anyone's bringing in a television.

Hulu is streaming the inauguration live for those who have one of these PC-things.

Well, I'm sure there are lots of all-day-and-night celebrations scheduled. I know here in in the hot, hot NOPA the Poleng Lounge is officially partying-- prizes for wearing your campaign tee or dressing as your favorite president!

Here's what I found for morning events so far:
Presidential Inauguration Simulcast – Civic Center. Free with donation of new socks or underwear. 7am - noon.
Free public screening at UC Berkeley's Sproul Plaza. Light refreshments served. Rain or shine event. 7:30 - 11 am.
Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in SF is doing a parade and lawn thing with two jumbotrons. 8am - 2pm.
----
For the evening:
Electric Works and San Francisco Food Bank present An Inaugural Ball. $10 suggested donation. Door proceeds from this Inaugural Ball benefit the San Francisco Food Bank. As befits a presidential swearing-in, formal attire is suggested. If you're coming straight from work, no worries: with changing rooms and a lending library of borrowed finery available, there's no excuse not to dress to impress.
Rock for Barack. Paradise Lounge has got super drink specials so everyone can "Drink for Change" featuring .99 cent drafts and .99 cent well drinks from 6-9pm. $10 donation at the door with proceeds going to Glide Foundation of San Francisco.
----
Anybody know of other things going on around here? I'm open to anything and have the whole day free!

Well, hell. I work a block away from the Yerba Buena Gardens, so I might just have to go check that out. My office is airing the broadcast in our board room just to assuage network load caused by people streaming to their desktops, so I doubt anyone will care if I take my viewing offsite. If anyone else is in the area, we could arrange a meet-up spot.

I'll be at Yerba Buena. If anybody wants to meet up, email me or text me (iamkimiam) on Twitter. :)
Not sure where to after.
