Pony Request: Comments on the status blog.
My thought: Bad idea.
The point of status.metafilter.org is a place of last resort for MeFi info. Making it more complex means it's more likely not to work.
Furthermore, what do you think would have happened if everyone who normally uses MeFi/AskMeFi/MeTa all jumped on to Status and started posting comments?

Would you rather have Matt and pb fixing the site or answering questions from 20,000 members asking why the site's not fixed?

- Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
- Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes!
- The dead rising from the grave!
- Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

I agree, but at least, cab we gave some linkage from the status page to whatever Meta sites are working? And thanks for getting things back to speed so quickly! However, I'd prefer Talk to any other subsite any day.

I'd rather they built a big, blue spaceship and carry us all to Europa and attempt a landing there.

Next time the site is down you can all come over to my place and I'll make you some cocoa. Please bring your snowshoes.
I dare you.

Cocoa? Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
note: I don't know what I mean by that.

At the very least, when the site goes down again I could have a plate of beans emailed to me to keep me occupied.

Whenever Metafilter goes down I just yell insults into a glass jar and then close it up then slam the jar into my face until it shatters

You can always do what I do and write on the white space on your screen with crayon. That's a lot of fun.

Yeah, the status blog is currently doing just about everything it's meant to do. There are a few different sloughs (metachat, irc, ritualistic twitter posts, etc) for excess mefi-specific energy already in the rare event of genuine downtime.
And aside from that the status blog gets so little use that there's no real incentive for making it a destination. Yay, we get to filter out a few tens of thousand blogspam comments between every-three-months updates? Nah.

I would like to piggyback my pony here.
The page saying "MetaFilter is having a massage" should have an embedded midi of "The Girl from Ipanema". I am not joking, it really should. This is easy to implement and will add a lot to those times when the site is down in the future.

The killer thing would be to get a whole bunch of elevator-music-type tunes up in random rotation, so each time you hit the massage notice it'd be a little something different.
And so people would start hammering on that massage notice and the page would go down under the load.
Cue massage notice II, which would play black metal at high volumes.
