Amazon links gone wild. February 13, 2009 11:38 PM   Subscribe

Amazon referrals need some fixing.

This guy is linking to his own amazon store so he's bypassing the amazon filter. He's linked to the main amazon site before, so I'm guessing he's finally figured out he's not getting the referrals. Here's some more of his self links: 1, 2.

Next time just email the mods. There's no need to link to him or his stupid store.

iamkimiam, the issue is not just with him self linking - but it's a site bug as well. Amazon links are supposed to give referrals to #1 so this is a bug that needs some love.

Huh, yeah, that's really lame (not the bypassing of the mefi code, but giving people incentives to post "answers" that are just links to their own store that gives them a kickback). I changed the links to go to the main amazon site.

If you filter astore.amazon.com out of links, it should get rid of those links to astores.

Now that search works again, you can search his comments for "buy-adam" and see fifteen (!) results.

On preview - um. Fewer now.

Huh. Not all astore links are spammy, but there are over a dozen more.

*cough*

Bigmusic's search link works fine, though searching all sites is good.

I removed all the obvious self-linky ones, thanks for the catch.

If you do a search for badgers I think you'll be surprised by what you find.
