I've always wondered if people who seem to like poetry and learning and other cultures and everything, do they really like boring stuff or do they just pretend to like boring stuff because they think they are supposed to like it?

And I snarked in that post out of the gate hoping I'd get lots of comments or jessamyn would delete it for my pissing in the post!
Now I feel guilty that this post has more comments than that thread.
I thought it was a cool post, commented mostly so I would remember to go back later and give the links the attention they deserved, and forgot all about it.
I like poetry, write poetry, and love reading about poets.
Giving it a favorite some at least I can contribute to Dumsnill's liking the thread.

I have my favorite count filter set pretty high. If it's that good surely the community will bring it up to the plane of Quality Things I Can See.

jessamyn, Well, I said I wanted to meet Ko Un, since he was setting out "to create portraits of all the people he had ever met in his life," since I do think it would be cool to be in a 26 volume set of poetry.
And I was teasing about wanting my comment deleted or favorited as being my motivation for having snarked, so I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I'd never set out to deliberately make more work for anyone. I still think it would be a neat idea to meet the guy, and wouldn't mind being in a book of poetry.
I'm still glad someone killed the comment though.

Actually, screen space is a problem. I sorta-announced the upcoming interactive fiction contest a month ago and most people missed it because MeTas are coming so fast and furious that they only stay up for an day or so.

You cannot force people to enjoy what you enjoy, Jason. Congratulations on taking an interest in Korean poetry. I, personally, barely take an interest in English poetry and simply cannot summon up the desire to read about an Asian poet. No amount of cheer leading, scolding, or sneering is going to change my mind.
The point I was trying to make earlier is that the front page has all the posts neatly arrayed for us to choose from and we don't need people coming to MetaTalk to tell us, "Oh you really should read this one." We all (presumably) have the ability to scan The Blue and select the links that look interesting to us. The Green is a bit different because there are so many questions posted daily that it is hard to keep up and sometimes I only find out about a provocative AskMe topic when it lands here in The Grey for discussion. However, even then members don't just show up in MetaTalk and post "Read this AskMe Post, it's fabulous."
I fervently hope that nobody decides to follow your precedent and write "X wrote a wonderful post. You should check it out." Can you imagine if all 65,000 registered members came to MetaTalk and proclaimed: Read THIS-- it's grrrrreat! What makes MetaFilter such a terrific place is the wide range of topics and thankfully members are allowed to pick and choose what they want to read and what they want to ignore.

I agree with you there, Secret Life of Gravy. We don't need every (or even 1% of posts being announced here), but I think I would have missed the post entirely if not for it landing here, but there is irony that people talking about the thread has 31 more comments than the actual thread.
Poetry aside, Ko Un is pretty damn interesting on the political side, the historical side, the religious side, and the morality (or immorality if you prefer).
I'm not going to dictate people's interest, but I will be amused.

I'm more than a bit surprised that you would use that verb in connection with my post. I expressed an opinion about a post on the site. I'm allowed to make one such post a week. I've done maybe four of those in the 2.5 years I've had an account here.
I mean, if this is how you react to twelve words in two sentences on your computer monitor, how do you react to the film reviews or music reviews or book reviews in your local newspaper? Do you view those as impositions too?
The point I was trying to make earlier is that the front page has all the posts neatly arrayed for us to choose from and we don't need people coming to MetaTalk to tell us, "Oh you really should read this one."
Yeah, they're neatly arrayed but it's pretty clear to me that the flashier, outragefilter-style posts get a disproportionate amount of attention and the quieter, more in-depth posts about obscure topics occasionally need a little more promotion to get the attention they deserve.

Trust me on this: if people actually viewed the things I did here as precedents worthy of emulation and imitation, MetaFilter would be a considerably different place. So I wouldn't worry about that. And even if it did turn into a precedent, I think it would be a big improvement over the current stream of robo-snarking, hissy-fits and pissing matches.
There's room for the occasional positive post here.
