Whilst that was the lamest video I've ever sat through, you did point us to a pretty decent website of time-wasting videos.
Inspired by Progosk's comment in the Kutiman thread, I've put together a few significant moments from the early years* of the Metafilter-YouTube love affair.
Wow. How weird is it that four years ago, YouTube was only a month old? It's hard to imagine the internet without it now. posted by EarBucket at 7:02 PM on March 6
Oh, how I miss inline pictures. posted by 517 at 8:19 PM on March 6
All but two of the videos linked have been removed due to various copyright complaints, so as a YTL submission of any kind this is mostly to wholly useless.
I mean this less as an indictment of the poster than I do of YouTube's crackdown on this sort of thing, although I do mean it as an indictment of both frankly. posted by rollbiz at 8:39 PM on March 6
Also, can I create a MetaTalk post about some of the original web pages where 10 of my 12 links are to dead sites or placeholder sites...? Would anyone consider that OK?
As another aside, what the fuck is going on with this place recently? Maybe I have a short memory, but if not this has been the most ridiculous week or two ever, in terms of crazy MeTa posts. Can there be a full moon for fourteen straight days? posted by rollbiz at 8:43 PM on March 6 [2 favorites]
Rollbiz, WTF? Too much caffeine today? posted by empath at 9:19 PM on March 6

That's the beauty of bottled moonjuice, rollbiz. I'm not entirely convinced you've been abstaining, either.
The effect that Youtube (or ubiquitous, functional streaming video in general, really) has had on bloggery in general over the last few years is really interesting and profound; I like the idea of this as a slice of the history of that on the metafilter front, so, hey, thanks, Horace Rumple. posted by cortex at 9:42 PM on March 6

Also funny how Google bought Youtube 2.5 years ago already. posted by smackfu at 9:47 PM on March 6

I can't remember the last time the MeTa's front page was filled with posts from one single day. I should post a MeTa about it. posted by Alvy Ampersand at 10:09 PM on March 6
Wow. That Heavy Metal Wonder Woman clip really is the most boring and ridiculous thing I've ever seen. posted by koeselitz at 12:59 AM on March 7
Does anyone remember the post, of Youtube videos, of some men dancing at an outdoor event? It was framed on the post as a dance off with different moves, but it was just some really bad dancing. I've tried to look for it a couple of times and can't find it. Anyone? posted by P.o.B. at 7:19 AM on March 7

it wasn't techno viking was it?
Nah. It was much more pedestrian. Like, some southern Californian outdoor festival. Mostly people sitting around but a couple of Dads and Grampas dancing badly. posted by P.o.B. at 10:33 AM on March 7
It's 2009 already. I so remember 1999ish, looking so forward to a new millennium and the hope that humanity on the whole would get its shit together.
