This thread still appears on the front page (after several refreshes), but clicking on the comments gives you the standard "Nothing to see here" thread deletion page.
You know, I have too! Tho' it's only been from work where we have some crazy-ass proxy up that makes a lot of pages go kerflooey. My work PC is running IE 6.0 on NT through a Microsoft Proxy Server (don't remember the vers. #, sorry)

And how interesting that only us consonants are having this problem too!

It's indicative of the decline of metafilter. I'm leaving, and I'm taking my ball with me.

ah, if only I'd made it here earlier (to boost the consonant thing). I've seen this too, and at least once with a thread that looked like it'd be interesting. Don't remember now what it was, of course.. (and surely wasn't particularly; when you're wasting time, and denied access, things look more exciting).

If this consonant thing goes on then the deserters have already won.

No real idea what's happening, but does MetaFilter write out static pages from the database to reduce the load on the server and only changes the static front page when a new post is added? That might explain why a deleted post would still be on the page if no new posts had been added.
Or maybe not.

Be gone, vile vowel vouchers!
yerfatma: it did during the high volume post Sept. 11 days. I thought it was dynamic now, but guess not... that would be my guess too.
