Yeah, I know, scrolling down to the bottom of the page after going to your recent comment is SO HARD. But it IS!

A feature like that encourages bad behavior. It says "the previous comments aren't worth reading, click here to just type the first thing off the top of your head regardless of whether someone else already said it before"

Also, get a mouse with a wheel on it. Also, try the PageDown or End key.

I use a system of clicking the last link timestamp or the End key, depending on which PC I'm on. I would think that any server-side, built-in tool for this would encourage people to skip right to the comment box without reading the rest of the thread, and that would be bad since they might miss some awesome bit of wisdom from me.

And I just can't support that.

posted by Plutor at 12:48 PM on April 10, 2009

K is a hard letter, especially when you're trying to actually say something. I didn't fix the greasemonkey script, it has always seen reverse-alphabets. The problem is the out of order Y, 3, and N. It depends on 8 of the last 10 comments being in a regular pattern. Maybe that's too much? 3 out of 5? I'd hate to cause alphabet threads with false positives.

The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the MeFi. Its favorite diet is alphabetters, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of work. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome snark to tell the tale.

Very often I bring up the grue as a reason that small children should not do things. "Don't run down the alley where I can't see you! You'll get eaten by a grue!" About the fifth time I said this, the elder child in my care noted "There's no such thing as a grue." Yeah, well, trying telling IT that when it EATS YOU.

Why don't you just let the younger one get eaten? Then you can be all like "IN YOUR FACE MISTER THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A GRUE!" to the older one.

...xcept I'm hungry and I need sustenance. Mmmm, nanny-raised children, so rich in fat content. Run down the alley, run! Don't listen to your nanny, children... run toward the funny happy hungry grue!

As any good nanny would, I do my best to make sure the children in my care are healthy, happy, plump, and delicious.
