Recent comments bug?

There may be a bug on the recent comments page.

Upon making what I thought was the thousandth comment in the Sarah Palin thread, I noticed after posting that I was about four comments too early according to the comment count in the thread and on the front page -- but I was #1000 according to the recent comments page.

The recent comments page says there are currently 1010 comments; the count in the thread itself says 1006. Any reason for the discrepancy? Deleted comments throwing off the number of comments, for example?

Probably a difference of including vs. excluding deleted comments in the SQL statement pulling the count, yeah. We should fix that.

You know, I guess that was a bit curt, but it made me laugh. Something I like about this site is how incendiary it can get in so short a time -- and over such a minor offense. I suppose I also sort of figured they were chummy and it was a funny, over-the-top-for-yuks response. I still think it sounds funny when I read it. Though I wouldn't encourage people to be like that just to amuse me. I can amuse myself. I have a teevee. And I am in love with my teevee.

Hmmm.... I took the fingers & toes counting in binary number of 1040575 and multiplied by 5. Typing this out, I think I realize where I erred.

Yeah, that should be (2^{20 x 5}) -1 and not (2²⁰-1) x 5.
