They Can Kill Me But They Cannot Eat Me: PDX 10.2 this Saturday, It is Happening.

*First, to the mods, I apologize for this re-post. I submitted a form dealy a couple times to get the meet-up on the sidebar, but it never made it. Here is the original thread.

-If you want to attend, mefi mail me and I will reply with my address.
-I think it should just be BYOBeer/Wine/Liquor for the sake of easiness -There is a grill...so bring whatever things you might like to grill or other snacks/treats/goodness for s'mores
-And yes, there will be marshmallow roasting.
-Starts at 6? Or whenever you want to come over.
-Dersins said he might bring eggs...so...there might be eggs...
-We will be showing The Entertainment, so you may never be able to leave heh. heh.

So, Lutoslawski's back yard, this Saturday (12 Sept 2009) at 6PMish? Sold!

Thanks Dersins for putting it up on the sidebar! I'm not cool enough to have this privilege, sorry everyone for the delay.

Egg party, righton, seeya there. I will most likely leave my Edith Massey costume at home, though.
posted by idiopath at 3:56 PM on September 8, 2009

Oh, and all the mefites who've inquired about my address, feel free to send it along to other pdx mefites who want to come.
posted by Lutoslawski at 4:04 PM on September 8, 2009

Will you be sending your address to those who will not be coming to the meetup, but who reserve the right to kill you and eat you at some future time?

Offtopic: I am confused. What's the bar of darker gray around dersins' comment represent?
posted by lazaruslong at 6:04 PM on September 8, 2009

It is to let you know that dersins is one of the initiated in the elite inner circle of the cult of mefi, and to remind you of the extra respect and deference you owe him as such.
posted by idiopath at 6:10 PM on September 8, 2009

The dark grey bar is to show who is bringing the eggs.

Still bummed about missing 10.1 at the East Burn due to the goddamned plague; completely ready to attend the hell out of this and mix manhattans for everybody.
posted by churl at 7:33 PM on September 8, 2009

Don't worry, churl, it just keeps getting better with practice.
posted by Greg_Ace at 10:42 PM on September 8, 2009

The dark grey bar shows which comment is the offical date/time details linked to from the side bar.

speaking of the plague, I picked up some at PAX this weekend...maybe I could make it down to pdx with it on Saturday. (Unlikely).

Gotcha. Thanks!

And how awesome would it be if pb really spent the time coding a feature to delineate egg-bringing responsibility. Tee hee.

posted by lazaruslong at 7:23 AM on September 9, 2009

So I had no internet for three weeks and thus missed the original discussion about this meetup, and I'm now suffering from PAXflu, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to miss this one, unless by some miracle I get better by Saturday.
posted by Caduceus at 8:46 AM on September 9, 2009

dammit. i will be in monterey. with any luck, i will be done swim/bike/running by then and lounging about in a hot tub with drink in hand.
posted by oreonax at 9:40 AM on September 9, 2009

Not sure if I can make it, actually - going on a hike during the day and I might just be too broken to come - I'll try but no promises.

Confused about the egg thing. Is this some local witchcraft practice?

Confused about the egg thing. Is this some local witchcraft practice?

It's just that we have chickens (see my profile pic). Which means that we have extra eggs (we get about 2 dozen a week). So back when we were discussing this before I mentioned that I'd bring some eggs to the next meetup.

So, y'know, eggs.
posted by dersins at 11:57 AM on September 11, 2009

Dersins, don't try to hide the truth. Yes, the eggs are absolutely for local witchcraft. You think the weird shit that happens in pdx is mere chance? Oh no no no - Dersins is the secret dark lord of Oregon. He controls the cosmos with egg divination. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

Please don't kill me before my time. But should I die, yes, please eat me. I'd hate this prime meat to go to waste.

Easter Egg Hunt at dersins' next April!

Every freaking day is like an Easter egg hunt here. Today Ms. dersins found one nestled in the middle of the giant, sprawling delicata squash plant. I frequently find them neatly deposited atop the carrot fronds or tucked in random corners of the fence line. That's just how chickens roll sometimes.

I know it's byob etc but does anyone have any requests? I'm debating bringing any hard stuff but the liquor store is next to the Freddy's I'm stopping off at on the way...
posted by geckoinpdx at 2:36 AM on September 12, 2009

I was gonna try and make it but it turns out I'm driving from the wrong Salem to the wrong Portland.

So glad that cat barf profile pic is gone.

We have a case of Sesh' and a couple loaves of bread, rolling barbarian-style.

(Ok a few more tasty treats are progressing in the kitchen--one request is s'more matter to go with the 'shmellows.)

...10.2 points to anyone who can find the black cat in the backyard after the sun goes down!
posted by JaiMahodara at 2:22 PM on September 12, 2009

So, Ms. dersins & I have an early dinner thing, but we'll be by later with beers and stuff. If that's cool, I mean. Also, is that the black cat with the one enormous fang?
posted by dersins at 4:58 PM on September 12, 2009

beers and stuff

Stuff = eggs.

Just, y'know, fyi.

Word. And no, ours is not crazy snaggletooth fang cat - but that cat is terrifying. Our cat frequently gets into staring matches with Fang. Hilarious.

Fun times, thanks for hosting. Wish I could have stayed longer...

Thanks everyone for coming out! What good times. Marshallow roast? Check. Eggs? Check. Drunk? Check Check Check.

Let's not wait a year to do it again! I'm happy to host anytime.

Thanks so much for the excellent time. Your guys' hosting chops are unimpugnable.

Much thanks to Lutoslawski and JaiMahodara for hosting, and mad props to churl, master of the manhattan.

Dersins is on the hook for 10.3, provided that MsDersins is amicable...
posted by geckoinpdx at 4:22 PM on September 13, 2009

Had a great time. Thanks Lutoslawski and JaiMahodara. Hopefully the hangover will fade before I have to go to work tomorrow. As far as 10.3 is concerned, unfortunately I don't think it's going to work at my house, but I'm sure we can find another venue.
posted by dersins at 6:06 PM on September 13, 2009

I kinda preferred the low-key (dare I say intimate?) nature of 10.2, but if we don't have any takers maybe we should just default to East Burn for 10.3? I can't really host because I'm in B**v*rt*n and it's not easily Tri-Met accessible.
posted by geckoinpdx at 9:57 AM on September 14, 2009

I could host (NW 21st and Hoyt) on a night my daughters are at their mom's, anyway. No way I'm exposing them to all of youse.

I was thinking the 10th or 17th; what do you think?
posted by geckoinpdx at 12:07 PM on September 14, 2009

Geez people, somebody put up some pictures! I didn't wear my only button-up shirt for nothing, people.

Whoops one too many peoples there. Whatever, it's 3:30 PM and I'm drunk because I deserve to be.

I haven't offloaded them from my camera yet but I will let you know when I do.

I only took like five or six, though.
posted by geckoinpdx at 7:55 PM on September 14, 2009

dare I say intimate?

Heh, maybe for those of you involved in wacky hammock shenanigans. Some of us have our dignity.

I wish I had a hammock.

There was room for one more, we were fresh out of engraved invitations :)
posted by geckoinpdx at 1:45 AM on September 15, 2009

10th or 17th sounds awesome. NW at Salt's? I'm down with that. And I'll upload some pics eventually.

maqsarian - there's always room on my hammock for you

The 17th would be great. 10th might be a bit sticky.
posted by msalt at 11:36 PM on September 15, 2009

OK so let's tentatively plan for the 17th then..? Do you have a time that works best for you? 10.2 was at 18:00 which seemed ok but I have no life therefore I'm flexible...
posted by geckoinpdx at 2:15 AM on September 16, 2009

Yeah, 6pm is great. Allows it to be a pre-function or early evening as people prefer.
posted by msalt at 10:33 AM on September 16, 2009

IMPORTANT: I'm talking about October 17th, not tonight (won't be there). We're all clear on that, right? If folks want something sooner, let's talk.
posted by msalt at 5:35 PM on September 17, 2009

Yes, sorry, should have clarified that it was October...need more time to recover than that!

I think if we go any sooner the novelty might wear off. Or not, as long as beer is involved I'm good...

So do you want to MeMail address/directions, msalt, should we meet somewhere first, or..?
posted by geckoinpdx at 11:45 PM on September 17, 2009

Let's do MeMail closer to the event. I don't actually know how to start a new topic for the October 17th 6pm meetup at Msalt's (hint hint), it's a ways off. The house is a bit funky -- it's not on a street (like the house in Pink Flamingo's) even though it's in the middle of NW Portland.

In the meantime, we talked a bit at the last meetup about the fact that I'm a standup comedian. I'll be featuring at Harvey's in downtown Portland with Vince Morris (an excellent comic) next week -- October 1-4th. I have some comp tickets to give away, and some people here may be on the mailing list for blocks of free tickets. MeMail if interested. Mark

17th at msalt's? I'm in. I'll make Jai come as well.
posted by Lutoslawski at 1:06 PM on September 24, 2009

Added. It should be on the sidebar now.
posted by geckoinpdx at 2:24 PM on September 24, 2009

I'm probably in as well. When it gets closer to the date, someone should post it to the main page of Metatalk-- this thread is so old and buried that the only people who will see it are those who have commented already and are tracking it in their recent activity...
posted by dersins at 3:44 PM on September 24, 2009

..or the ones that click the link in the sidebar ;)

Um, what do folks think about changing this to the 16th (Friday) of October, or the 18th (Sunday)? I've been offered a comedy gig that night. I'll honor my commitment, but if you don't mind changing....
posted by msalt at 3:30 PM on October 8, 2009

The 16th might actually be better for me, as it turns out.

hi hyperlith!

I prefer Friday over Sunday, but either's ok with me.
posted by Greg_Ace at 6:02 PM on October 8, 2009

Fine by me. Actually it's easier since I work in NW anyway and I'll already be around.
posted by geckoinpdx at 6:13 PM on October 8, 2009

Great, Friday the 16th it is, let's say 7pm unless someone wants something different. Memail me for precise address and cell phone; it's at NW 21st and Hoyt.

Can someone please update the sidebar? Thx.
