Why doesn't the Metafilter support inline youtube video embedding on anything other than the blue?
Arising specifically from this question, because nothing disrupts staring at cool shit like going through tabs.

If YouTubes were placed inline in a question like that one, you'd end up with 20 of them and it would bring most people's browsers to their knees even if the videos weren't playing.

No youtube objects are embedded into the page until you actually click on the play button for a video. There's been plenty of FPPs with dozens of youtube links.

Because, rather than use a common code-base, each site is lovingly handcrafted from the finest peruvian hypertext. The fact that one part of the site has a certain feature has no relation to other parts of the site.

- Lack of embedded music players outside music
- The blink tag
- voting outside of projects
- embedded maps outside of jobs
- no tags on projects
- snark found on front page not available on music, projects, or askMetafilter

One time this came up before, it was noted that video was far less common in AskMe & MetaTalk than on Metafilter, & that its value is questionable. I doubt this one thread would justify it.
I think there was some talk about how much time & attention it takes to answer a question involving video, & how that provides an incentive to NOT provide the inline video player, but I'm not entirely sure where I'm getting that. Possibly a podcast. Or just my imagination.

This post should explain everything.
No really, it should.

Not so! I have Youtubes on the homesite of my Facepage and they show, even on my friends' Palmberries! The YouTubes I put are mostly of teeth-insertion procedures because I'm oooold and infiiiirm.

Youtubes are showing up on your friend's Palmberries? He should probably go see a doctor and get that checked out pretty quick.

IANAD, but I think the sampling rate of YouTubes is too low for proper absorption and digestion of most nutrients. As a temporary weightloss measure it should be okay, but after you've hit your target weight, you may come to regret your choice Burhanistan.
Okay, but on the inline thing, in the previous thread it was discussed that it could be discussed. and perhaps it was, but i was dizzied by the incessant blinking.
So is it still just a "haven't done it before, don't see any good reason to start" thing?

Consider me part of the camp that says that SLYT posts would, for the most part, be better left OFF OF METAFILTER ENTIRELY.
Inline...bad.
We are not your huckleberry, and no---your video is not that (awesome, funny, never seen before, really a dude launching himself across a field.)

This AskMe about familiar pieces of classical or instrumental music would be much easier to browse with inline YouTube links.

The inline videos are an option you can turn off anyway. I vote for this pony! Unless it breaks everything.

Honestly, I'm amazed the thread in question hasn't been closed. I mean...it's pretty much chat-filter.
