What's the gender breakdown on MeFi? February 15, 2002 1:02 PM   Subscribe

The large penis thread got me thinking -- along with going bowling with nine guys during MeFiSea -- what's the gender breakdown on MeFi, for those that have a stated gender?

I'm a chick. (I figure my gender was plenty outed in the pre-natal care thread, no point in being coy now.)

I am also a chick. The beard in my profile pic is photoshoped.

Wow! Miguel is your beard?

59% male/41% female. Personally.

i'm a guy. some call me a dude. i have yet to be known as "the dude," though that is a title i aspire to.

before we go further, i bet matt could write a script that queries the user DB selecting for gender and print out some statistics based on that. not to give you much work, matt, but i don't know any coldfusion.

Miguel is very special man, ColdChef.

I watched the Vagina Monlogues on HBO last night and it occured to me that I am most certainly not female.

it wouldn't be very accurate. It's not a M/F radio button kinda thing. See mine, for instance.

i'm a boy, but my car has feminist bumper stickers, and so does my conversation.

Don't you end up gagging on the stickers?

I have been called ma'am many times by people who are easily confused by waist-length hair, but it's still quite inaccurate.

I'm all man, but my shrunken siamese twin is sort of androgenous-looking. Let me ask it.

It says not to trust you because you just want to hurt us.

Yum, a long hair on guys thread -- now THAT I could get into.

What I am still bothered by is the fact that I tend to assume anybody without an obvious girly girl name is male until proven otherwise. (For example, the writer S.E. Hinton.) It's common, I guess -- I briefly had a job responsibility of writing the company's employment ads, and I always gave the contact name as just an initial and a last time, to see how many people writing in assumed it would be a man. Many many did.

Hey, Janet. I'm a Chris. I constantly get phone calls from people who assume I'm going to be a woman by my name. Probably doesn't help that I handle the marketing. Oh, and I've got long hair too. And, of course, I wear prosthetic breasts and take estrogen, but come on, who doesn't?

I also have long hair, Janet, but not in the place most people would like it to be.
