Hide and Tweet September 29, 2009 6:16 PM   Subscribe

"Jason Derulo had my permission." With that statement on Twitter, Imogen Heap settles the controversy over Jason Derulo's sampling of her song "Hide and Seek" in his song "Watcha Say," which was the subject of this post on the blue.

Imogen Heap adds: "Love or hate me for it - Hide and Seek has a life of it's own. I love it's madcap journey x"

I don't know if this is MetaTalk-worthy, but the thread is closed now, so I couldn't post an update over there. I just thought Metafilter users who took an interest in that thread would like to know about this -- not just the permission, but Heap's positive take on it.

Looks like the video link in the OP is dead.

Oh yeah, good point. His MySpace page has a legal streaming copy of the song if you want to hear it.

For a Meta full-circle, The White Hat has a great fingerstyle guitar version of the song over at MeFiMu.

I know someone who asked her permission to use her music in a short film. She's apparently quite generous about it and promptly responds to other artists. Good on her.

No one who writes "amirite" can make fun of anyone else's English.

No one who's grammar checking a well-established meme should be using the word "fun" in a sentence.

Maybe we can leave threads open to the OP in perpetuity so that stuff like this can get updated in the thread and still avoid the spam issue.

GuyZero: "Maybe we can leave threads open to the OP in perpetuity"

Yeah, I can't think of any ways that that would cause any problems.

At least in this case, the person with the update wasn't the op (that's me), but still had an update.

Well you could mail the OP. It's no worse than making a MetaTalk thread.
