username.mefi shortcut URLs no longer work

Is the "http://metafilter.com/username.mefi/username" URL format broken?

I've been using this URL format as a way to quickly find the profiles of users mentioned in threads when there wasn't a link provided for years now, but when I tried it a moment ago I was redirected to my own profile. Has this functionality been broken for a while, or did something change recently?

It's broken for me, using http://www.metafilter.com/username/username

I asked this in the next thread down earlier this evening, but I suspect it got lost in the grar.

Yep, confirmed it's broken and looking into it.

And I have to add the standard disclaimer that the /username shortcut isn't officially sanctioned, we don't use it anywhere on the site, not all usernames work, and so on.

I tried it with my username and I was surprised when it worked. Then I realized that proved nothing.
