Lawrence, KS is overdue for a meetup. Let's plan one for March.

Mondays won't work for me, but pretty much any other day will be good. Suggest we aim to have the meetup sometime during the last week in March. It might be warm enough by then to hang out on the Replay back porch. Further date/other venue suggestions?

I'm in for a Friday.

I went to KU back in the early 90s, and it still weirds me out (in a mostly good way) that Lawrence seems to have such a strong internet presence.

I used to live on Ohio St., and I also lived across from what used to be The Crossing (in its bohemian incarnation).

I'm in NYC, but someday I will attend one of these.

Seconding Fridays as excellent. Either the 19th (that's Spring Break, right?) or the 26th sound good.

Fridays are good, just let me know when! I have no actual preference.

Don't bank on it and for sure don't alter a meetup plan on my account, but I'm still knocking around the idea of coming up to see Tim Barry play in late March. It's an early show, so I'd b up for a beer someplace after if I wind up going.

After Spring Break would work best for me. Do you think winter might actually be over by then? I'm having a hard time believing that.

In response to what I wrote above, someone ("Wally Sparks") left the following comment on an unrelated post on my blog:

Can you explain what you mean by it "weirds you out in a mostly good way"? Why would such a wonderful city as Lawrence, Kansas "weird you out" for having an internet presence? I simply can not wrap my head around this comment except to assume this is more typical New York City BS. Did you assume the place stopped existing after you made your move?

To clarify: I love Lawrence. Hence my use of the phrase "in a good way," and my pledge to eventually attend a Lawrence meetup. A cursory glance at my MeFi posting and commenting history shows me criticizing NYC all the time (latest example).

I'm sorry to pollute the thread with this, but I'm not going to leave the comment on my blog, where it makes no sense, and meetup threads are generally loose enough that I figured it wouldn't be a problem. If anyone needs further help accepting my sentimentality for Lawrence, please feel free to contact me directly.

Rudy's Pizza FTW!

1) Clearly you are a fraud, since I can't imagine anyone living in NY remembering Rudy's fondly!

2) I absolutely get what you mean about the wierd way Lawrence seems to pop up on the Internet. It wasn't exactly technological mecca when I was there either.

Huh, this took a turn for the weird.

Anyway, let's shoot for March 26th, at the Replay, around 8:00. (If you show up earlier, you can probably get in a few free pinball games.)

Can't believe I missed that Lawrence AskMe question. Ufez Jones, if you make it up here for the Tim Barry, post here later or MeFiMail me.

cog_nate, you need to subscribe to the AskMe "Kansas" tag feed. Kansas comes up weirdly often in AskMe.

And just to clarify for Wally Sparks and others of his ilk, I meant weird in a good way, so don't bother tracking me down like you did bingo. Kansas born and bred, properly disdainful of New York etc etc.

Yeah, no kidding. Worst pizza on Earth!

Well, Rudy's holds a special place in my heart, because I started going there when it was just a tiny place behind the Crossing, and I lived in the apartments across the parking lot. My window faced Rudy's, and sometimes as I saw Chad closing up, I'd shout to him and ask if he had any pizza he was throwing away, and sometimes he would tell me to come over and get it. I fondly remember the wine sauce. I was so happy for them when they moved to the bigger place on Mass St.

Anyway, perhaps Chad and Julie don't run it anymore. I also ate plenty of Pyramid and Pizza Shuttle. And the all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet at Valentino's, complete with dessert pizza, was pretty awesome.

Ahh, Rudy's behind the Crossing, I remember it so fondly. Well, maybe "remember" isn't quite right, more like I have a fond smiley feeling that seems like it should be attached to memories, but for whatever reason, those memories just aren't there.

Will do cognate. If there's pinball available, that definitely ups the ante. I'm really hoping to make it.

Don't you mean Pizza BUTTHOLE? (Or did only my crass and amazing guy friends call it that...)

(Apologies for another Lawrence nostalgia derail but -- Damn! I miss that town.)

I just got the Pizza Shuttle jingle in my head now. Fuck.

OK, I'm thinking of driving up from Manhappiness, just making sure there will be Friends of Mathowie for me to meet.

I'll be there, probably out back in the beer garden unless weather gets bad.

This is my first time coming to a meetup. How will I know which table is the MeFi table?

It'll have a big sign that says "REENUM ISN'T HERE YET."

Shit, I forgot!
