Meetup with Nina Simone, awesomeness

Manhattan/Montreux Meetup! Join me for an evening with Nina Simone at Montreux in 1976, hosted by our very own hermitosis.

Continuing our March meetup madness, I'm going to hermitosis's screening of The Rise and Fall of Nina Simone: Montreux 1976 at 92Y Tribeca on Friday, March 26 at 8:00pm (description and tickets). I want other mefites to come too!

Imagine how amazing this film will be with drinks and friends. It will be more amazing than you can possibly imagine.

I don't think I can make it this year, but I went to last year's screening and it was phenomenal! hermitosis is a great host!

Thanks to everyone who wants to come, regardless of whether they can. I'm really looking forward to this, the 92YTribeca space is incredible and has a cafe and everything.

I suspect there is a risk of it selling out -- it's hard for me to gauge how effective the venue's publicity outreach is because I've never worked with them before, but the space holds 75 and the other performers and I are already trying to round up as many people as possible. Hard to say I guess, but I'm going to purchase a few tickets myself to hold onto in case of a sell-out, so if you run into a problem, message me.

I am pretty sure I first heard about this concert film on MetaFilter, and sought it out in its entirety because of clips that were posted here. It's pretty amazing to think that this screening (which I hope will become an annual event) is a product of my time here. What can I say? Between New York City, MetaFilter, and Her Royal Weirdness (Queen Nina), I shall never want for entertainment and wonder. I'll be so glad to have some mefites in the house!

Oh poopsicle. I didn't notice this before I posted my own and now maybe I'm meeting some friends on Friday night. I love Nina Simone like she was an ocean and I was a desert. This sounds like an amazing night.

I'm gonna do my darnedest to plan things so that I can go to this.
