ThePinkSuperhero and Stynxno are getting hitched. Let's celebrate! March 19, 2010 4:00 PM   Subscribe

ThePinkSuperhero and Stynxno first met at this meetup in 2005, but it took a visit from ColdChef in 2006 to really get them together. Now they're getting married, and to make sure it sticks, ColdChef is coming to town. This could only mean one thing, people: loud and drunken singing of Broadway showtunes at Marie's Crisis.

Come celebrate with the newlyweds and the undertaker on Monday, April 12 at 7:00pm at Marie's Crisis (59 Grove Street near Seventh Avenue).

...Dear God.

A childhood friend who comes into the city now and then dragged me here recently, and it was one of the more drunken evenings I've ever spent. And that was WITHOUT MeFi involved.

I don't think I could live with myself if I DIDN'T go.

I am so, so sorry I will miss this meetup but I fly out from New York to Ohio the day after the actual wedding and so will be in the Buckeye State when this kicks off.

I'll be back in NYC on the 19th April for a few days, and will catch up with some of you then. I'm not planning an official meetup, but if you want to get together, Memail me. I go home on the 22nd.

YOU PEOPLE ARE SINGING ROCKY HORROR SONGS WITHOUT ME.

I. am. HURT.

I'll tell y'all why I'm not there: I been shooting RPG maker 2003 into my eye for the past few days. I'm lying here on a dirty mattress on the floor with my laptop nearby, MIDI battle music blaring out of it's tinny little speakers...

My name is fuq, and I am addicted to turn-based battle.

RPG Maker just fucks up on my computer, I can;t get the text boxes to look right, but man oh man in High School? RPG Maker 2k? 98? SHIT. I lost WEEKS making custom art and learning arcane things and making my own coding tricks and honor systems and puzzles. I made a short game based on time travel where every small thing you do in the first room effects the rest of the game. Had I made that 5 years later it would be an art game and be awesome.

Which is to say, Fuq. I know of what you speak. I wish I still had my custom spirtes and hand-drawn event-tree charts.

I've always had my doubts about those ultra-sonic rodent-repelling gizmos, but I can say for sure that if you have a jonmc infestation show tunes will definitely do the trick.

I want you all to know I can't get The Internet Is For Porn out of my head.

Did my Representatives ever arrive?

Good times, y'all. Unfortunately, showtunes are a cultural blindspot for me. Regardless, fun was had.

Niiiight.

Cold Chef is so damn cute. In our next pageant he should play Baby New Year.

Sorry I could not make it. Hope you had enough ice. Anyone else want to throw an 11th party in June or July?

vraktar, my comrade and brother, you know I will support you in every and any party you propose. Although I did miss your New Years Eve, which I regret.

(I won't apologize for misspelling vrakatar. He just picked too weird of a name.)

That was fun! I am impressed at the breadth of show tune knowledge of my fellow mefites.

Yea, sorry for bailing early. Company was great, I just felt bad about not being able to sing along so I decided to leave that to the pros instead of lurking about in the corners like Quasimodo. Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Pinkstynxnohero, and also it was great making the acquaintance of ColdChef, even if he thinks I'm a filthy liar for getting him home at daybreak on Saturday night (more like Sunday morning, amirite??) and will probably never want to hang out with me again if I start a sentence with, "So a couple of friends of mine are working tonight..."

Alas, shmegegge, there was no "Springtime for Hitler." The tunes got more and more obscure as the night went on. I requested "When You've Got It, Flaunt It" from The Producers at 10:30ish, and it still hadn't been played when I left at 12:15—apparently my tastes are too plebeian for the Marie's Crisis crowd.

Wonder what they do if someone requests Green Day.

I would just like to point out that there was some point in the evening last night when fedoras were mentioned.

If you request 'Freebird,' they just look at you funny.

I am officially in love with Help, I can't stop talking! because he sang "The Next 10 Minutes" with me, and that was just awesome. Darlin', you can be my Jamie any day.

Also? katherineg aka Lee aka that kinky girl is awesome. Also? I drank so much that I spoke with a Scottish accent to my boyfriend when I called him after I got in. No hangover and no cigarettes, though, woo hoo!

My roommie and I were there last Friday for her birthday. She requested "Irish Eyes Are Smiling," which went over pretty much the way I thought it would: a cement brick in the Hudson. The piano melody was fully played out, the lyrics attempted by the crowd, and the player's attention directed to the handsome, extremely charming (we waltzed) Ken doll to his right.

But she can't say I didn't tell her so. Man, I love that place, and my only regret was that i was so partied out I couldn't do it twice in one weekend(ish).

Happy wedding-time Stynxhero! Sorry I missed out, and I'll see you guys next time.

Try to ignore my terrible singing here: MetaFilter Meetup at Marie's Crisis

The video is pretty dark and it's way too long, but...there ya go.

Almost.

The two things I loved about singing "The Internet Is For Porn": -- a) how perfect a song was that for a Meetup, and b) Schmegegge's getting doubled over with laughter throughout the whole thing, because he hadn't ever heard of AVENUE Q and didn't know the song existed, and at the end he was telling me "I have to see this show!"
