OUTSIDE TIME. June 5, 2010 8:10 AM Subscribe
Come Out and Play! So this big real world games festival is going on in Gowanus and around Prospect Park. Paper Airplane Derbys and Sidewalk Wars and Mystery Solving is going on.
It's probably too late to get anything together for today, but is anyone interested in checking anything out tomorrow?

Also if anyone's willing to get up early I'm really interested in getting a team together for Were-birds.

I attended last night and found the event to be chaotic and poorly organized. Extremely so. Their site says they eliminated online signups due to people not showing up last year, so they said to come in advance and there should be enough spots for everyone. I show up early for the one game I wanted to play yesterday only to be told it was full but to go outside and after thy call people for the teams they'd start calling off the waiting list.
At no point did the guy behind the desk offer to put me on said waiting list or let me add myself either. I never saw the signup sheet for the game at all.
So I went outside as instructed and the signup sheet appeared with another guy. One team invited me in because they were 7 people, only the guy in charge then made all teams 6 people, so I left. I was inside for 20 minutes checking out other stuff (waited to play something else only to be told once I hit the front of the line that the previous game was the last of the night.) So I came out and the teams were still out there trying to get organized, and the guy said "Does everyone have teams of 9?" then he made teams 7 again, then he said 8.
Another thing about signups is they have sheets there for the entire weekend, so you could sign up for today and tomorrow last night. So how is this different than just letting people sign up online (at least partly)? I signed up for two games today (already popular last night) and decided not to attend one and the second is in jeopardy because I burned myself cooking today and it's a cooking game.
I know this is ranty, but I advise going today to sign yourself up if interested in anything.

Cooking game was making ice cream. Sign ups are a little loose but the games are interesting enough that I'll be there tomorrow.
