Salt Lake Meet-up? June 5, 2010 6:55 PM   Subscribe

That Great Salt Lake

I'll be in SLC, Temple Square for a few days week after next. I'm free so far on the night of the 16th. Would a meet-up work for anyone in the vicinity?

YAY! A meetup I can actually attend!

"Toekneesan+TooFewShoes": Sounds like a knee slappin', foot-stompin' good time!

Well, I don't drink. So it would be more like Drunk Guy and The Designated Driver. Sounds pretty pathetic to me. No offense Toekneesan, but I don't think I'd pay a babysitter and make the 45 minute drive for my hubby and I to just meet one person. Although I'm sure you're a really nice guy.

Is it even a meetup if there are only two MeFites?

Yes it is. Otherwise this never happened.

But with some luck someone else from SLC will manifest.

The only meet-up we've ever had in State College was just me and The White Hat. It was a pretty good time. Then again, The White Hat is a pretty fascinating guy. I make no such claim about myself.

As for Drunk Guy, unlikely as I've got to help facilitate a conference the next day, but I will likely enjoy a beer or two. I'm also vehicle-less so I realize I'm making this difficult. I really can't do much that's not within walking distance from Temple Square.

And if there isn't a critical mass, so be it. Maybe next time. But I just attended a delightful meet-up in New York so I thought I'd give another a go.

The last Salt Lake meetup consisted of my wife and I taking cortex to Brewvies for a ski movie, so yes, a two-Mefite meetup counts.

Wednesday the 16th is all right with me. We could do something at the Gateway.

Anywhere specific @ Gateway? Just the read the Atlantic piece about the most and least BoHo cities in the US. Youns claim number 7 in the top ten. Any of it near Temple Square?

(He asked, suspecting he knew the answer based on the name of the landmark he was referencing.)

Toekneesan, you can hop on the Trax for free and it'll drop you at the Gateway. Downtown is a free fare zone (or it was last time I checked, you might want to look it up www.rideuta.com) and there is a stop right at Temple Square. It's been years since I used it, so please check the website to be sure.

I've eaten at Fleming's Steakhouse (expensive), the SkyBox (notable only for its vast arcade area which had only about 50% of the games operational last time I was there), and Jason's Deli (OK for a chain). Thaifoon and Z'Tejas are well-regarded by most people who have been there.

I would like to try Tucano's at some point, so if you dig meat and meat and more meat that would be a good option too.

Oh, here's the complete list of places to eat at the Gateway.

Also looks like there's a "Jazz on the Plaza" concert at 6:30. I assume that has nothing to do with the Utah Jazz.

Scratch that, the calendar was munged and the concerts are only on Thursdays.

I just found out that my husband's company is having their open house that night. I'll have the whole family, so I would probably just drop in to say hello. I will be in the area that night, so let me know where you'll all be and I'll see if I can work out being there to meet everyone. Even if it's just a few minutes.

Meat with a side of meat? Sounds like my kind of place. Okay, let's say Tucano's. Would 6:30 work?
posted by Toekneesan at 2:23 PM on June 9, 2010

Yes, 6:30 works for me. I work not far from there so I can just stay a little late.

See you there. I'll try to remember to bring and wear my metafilter t-shirt.

It's looking less and less like I'm going to be able to make it. I'm afraid I'll have to try for next time.

Have fun!

Lurkers. MCDMII:JO just memailed me that he won't be able to make it. So unless someone else states that they're going to attend, I don't think I'll be there either. Sorry I couldn't be more alluring.

Yer pal,
