When one has a million giraffes, one does not need to "stay classy".

I'd love to hear the publisher's argument for why only the English version needs "OMG!" on the cover.

One million chihuahuas. Boom. Go. Let me get my pen for my book deal.

This is true.

This is pretty cool, but reading this:

It's 32 pages with mosaics, so it contains nearly all the giraffes in the collection. It's kinda like those 'Where's Waldo?' books, except you'll be looking for your giraffe! Pretty cool, huh?

I can't help but worry some lower-level person at the publisher promised somewhere along the line, "But this guarantees we'll sell 1 million books."

theodolite: I'd love to hear the publisher's argument for why only the English version needs "OMG!" on the cover.

This actually inspired a question from me (which maybe I should take to AskMetafilter, but I kinda have a question in queue already and for easily the first time ever, I've had to wait a week) Since the words that inspire OMG translate into words with the same first letters in German, is that - or any other text speak like is supposedly used her - popular in non-English-speaking or even non-American places?

I guess, since I'm not even an American English user of such text speak, I'm not exactly the person who would know the answer to such things, and maybe it's a stupid question and I should just go back to loving how the German and Norwegian translations refuse to play along with the English titles word play -- going to far as having the Norwegian word for giraffes start with an S, which is just fantastic. (I know nothing about non-English languages other than Japanese and the Spanish I need to shop at the grocery store, so please don't be offended by my idiocy -- I just think the word 'sjiraffer' is amazing to look at.)

One
Million
Giraffes

O.M.G.

I kind of like it. Oh my god, there are one million giraffes! OMG, there are OMGs!

Hit post too soon.

My guess is that if German for oh my god (or a similar phrase) was, like, "eh mine gott" or something, they'd put EMG on the cover. And same for the corresponding Norwegian.

Also, I'm sad I didn't know about this earlier. I would have totally contributed giraffage.

Phase two: Make government recognize drawings of giraffes as currency.

Before people snark about the book deal, read the blog:

"And don't worry about finances. I doubt I will ever make more money on the book than I've had expenses for the servers to run this project. (I am currently $1100 in the red.) But if I ever will, I promise to donate all of my income from the book to Doctors Without Borders."

The total African giraffe population has been estimated to range from 110,000 to 150,000.

For a second there I had my hopes up that one species had made it off the endagered list. There are ten times more giraffes in that book than exist in the whold world.

Boy, that IE6 non-support message was pretty strident. I felt horribly ashamed for even trying to access the site with my archaic workplace browser.

I suck and my browser sucks and I'm sorry.

Oh. My. Christ.

Very relevant side story. A few Christmases back my mother decided to get mad at my brother and I... or as mad as she can get at adult us, which is to tsk-tsk... for breaking the "Lord's name" commandment because we were saying things like "Oh my God" too much.

And at least once, I tried to be a good son and correct myself and ended up saying "Oh my... Christ", actually expecting that one to go over any better.

And to clarify my earlier comments, I don't want anybody to think that I was annoyed if he did end up making any sort of money from his book deal, even before learning he would give any profit to charity. The only reason I could ever give for snarking at someone making money off their silly Internet idea is "why wasn't that me?" and that's just sour grapes.

I'm also jealous because I'd like to have a million giraffes.

Ha ha ha, yes! I made my coworkers draw giraffes as a team-building exercise in one of our weekly meetings after I read about this on MetaFilter. Yes! I will tell them they helped prove Jørgen wrong. Which is what really matters.

so it contains nearly all the giraffes in the collection

NEARLY all? So what if you do that where's waldo thing, as suggested, but your giraffe isn't there? That would suck.
