The fear and relief of his birth will turn into different kinds of fear and relief. Welcome to parenthood. I think the adrenaline rides of our "free" years (remember Mom Sonika, you once felt invincible) prepare us for this somewhat.

Thanks all :) And yes, labor was 47 hours. No cookies yet, but I've been rewarded in baby snuggles and bacon. Everybody's doing great considering how long the past few days have been.

I'm going to give it to you straight-- you get about three weeks of bliss followed by about four months of vague regret for bringing a bag of flour into your house that not only needs constant attention, but shrieks and soils itself. At least you didn't have to hide your disappointment when you found out that it was a girl.
It's MetaTalk-- someone needed to bust up the love fest, right? I'm shitting you anyway; as you've already realized, it's pretty wonderful. Congrats! You're just embarking on a rewarding adventure and he looks great!

I agree with Mayor Curley, though he left out the part where after a year or so that bag of flour starts talking, then he starts telling his own jokes and before you know it you've got a really fun human being living in your house. Then he gets old enough to mow the lawn. It's awesome.
Also, we only had about a day of bliss until it became Work. And while we do occasionally feel regret it only lasts about ten minutes and it's usually brought on by too many armpit farts at the dinner table.

I didn't ever intend to tweet during labor, but I seriously needed the good vibes at that point. The internets may or may not have helped the actual birth, but seeing the positive messages in response honestly really helped me stay relaxed in a wicked frustrating situation.

And my 10-year-old daughter is lamenting the fact that today's rain turned into snow (she really, really likes rain. I see Seattle in her future). Kids are fun!
